Anybody Selling A V6

there you go then-

Take away the admin tax & buyers premuim which will be ~ £500 ish it went for around £8700-
Auctions are not a good way of buying & this is an example of that-

which sort of comes in where I said above- no more than 9k....

I love how people make the assumption that Im driving the price down-

Theres a big wide world outdside of this forum- If you look at all 15 cars on PH & whatever on AT - I have had no influence over the pricing of those cars - & yet the consistent theme is that nearly all of the dealer ones have started off very high on price & worked their way down to where they are now-
UNSOLD

& from that 15 the black gold one 'SEEMS' to tick the boxes at a very good price-
I would go as far as to say it appears a little to 'cheap' although the black wheels & sidepods knock its appeal- however are easy to change...
Standard all the way apart from trophy trendlines.......

Whoever bought that probably knew it was going to be over 9k...

I actually think you speak a lot of sense generally. But... you have to admit that in this case, an example that doesn't agree with your prediction, there's a seemingly endless supply of answers OTHER THAN the obvious:

Somebody thought it was worth that, and paid it.

It's not really surprising people leap to conclusions

I wouldnt mind going back to the original thread & seeing the spec etc again ( & finding out the buyers premuim)-

Have you got the link?

I guess for me being on all forums & looking through a sellers eyes as well as a buyers eye I can see all sides of the arguements- I dont deliberatly falsify what I think something will sell for for the sake of it, I just make a judgement call on what i think it will sell FOR not neccasarily what its ACTUALLY worth- there is a difference-

Also with this thread- its a new member looking to spend ~ 12k on a Clio v6, on this side of the coin we would be operating as a group surely? to find the best value for money car for 12k- as thats why were are posting? to help??
Ive seen what Vees are ACTUALLY selling for & 12k with a bit of haggle will present a tidy PH2- but most probably PRIVATE only- not dealer-

If this was a 'how much is my V6 worth thread' then the roll is reversed everyone would be posting perceived value NOT selling value-
again all I do is post a price is what I think a car will sell for to the general public, not maybe within the confines of the forum-

If this phase one that auctioned to high 8's went at this price then thats great, however - you have the desperados on Ebay selling 22k ones for mid 7's-
when actually theres 'probably' not much difference between the 2-

Would I buy from a Dealer- NO, however there will always be demand for dealers for 3 reasons-

* finance
* Part exchanges
* percieved Expertise on the car they are selling-

If you are a cash buyer with NO PX, armed with the V6 buying guide off here you could easily bag a PH2 for 12k OR LESS-
However not everyone is confident like that or as said need PX & finance- which is where the dealers generally hold the price up higher -

Without going round in circles again & without offending any Titanuim or Mars red owners, Prices are dwindling down on ALL used cars, & whether we like it or not the wider audience dictates the price moreso than the individuals on this forum as the quality of cars here is not representative of the wider market....

Best regards
Steve

I agree there is a big wide world outside this forum, but how many of the potential buyers look, and then come on here for advice, probably most...

Only to see a forum member mocking the price of the cars?

Take the Ph1 for sale that Mick mentioned earlier in the thread, its up for £10k or close to that, yet when it was mentioned on another topic you decided to share your wisdom that a Ph1 is worth 6k trade or 7k with P/X.

And you don't think that will make sure potential buyers more reluctant to part with money for the cars, therefore drive the price down.

I know that being in the trade you have a good understanding of the market, but really do you have to give a valuation on every one that shows up for sale on this forum?

If only this forum had a head bang smiley-

There OP wants to know what she can expect to find for 12k So Ive outlined it- Again because as a buyer as everyone she wants value for money-
so ive offered up what I think is realistic for someone who has limited knowledge on the subject-

it may irritate a few what im pricing things at- but I dont decide the price......- I have ZERO influence on V6 prices.
They are selling at the current price because of affordability V what people have in terms of disposable income & as that ebbs away so does the price..

Its purely Demand V Supply... Supply is up, demand is down- & that goes for every other used sports car on the market-

POST 59 # I dont believe I was punting the value of this car down? 27k

Demand V supply

Sub 1k LY V6 = High demand.

40k Phase 1 in Silver- not such high demand...

I found the thread on that PH1

as ever intrigued by the price I had another look at it-
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C298906

http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/selling- they take 15%

So if the hammer price was 9.3k ( which included fee of 15%) then after comission the vehicle actually took 8k.
Obviously the person SELLING would have known the commission rate & the original Auctioneers estimate was at best 2k to high- & worst 5k to high-

Now look at the thread-
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=16485

My comments
PX 6k
retail £ 7750- 8500 depending on condition

Id say thats £8250 retail- or at least thats what id be asking if it were in my possesion-

He needs to invest his sellers fee in a henry hoover!

I think you will find I was spot on [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

The reason I put 6k PX is because in the majority of cases as soon as you mention 'clio v6 & the words PX' traders run for the hills....

I would say a private buyer bought that & got swept up in the moment- also Silverstone Auctions isnt your usual manheim or BCA - you are going to pay through the nose at that type of venue-
even if ive made a mistake & 9.3k was the hammer price before commission then thats basically Mayfair money for an Vine street car [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]

i didnt really look at WHO was selling it at the time, just the actual car.......

He he the phase 2 on PH with the Honda recaros used to be mine ... Garaged all it's life, while I and the first owner owned it, not driven in the wet ... Well maintained and cherished ... A good buy for someone at the right price - I have no idea what that is now given that I would be in the position as a buyer not a seller ... A different perspective altogether ...

Martin

Hi Martin- is the reference to you el presidente?

I dont know what it is ( well apart from the recession ) but I think it has been a painful year for V6 sales-

I know people look in & think I just knock these cars, when in truth it couldnt be furtehr from the truth- I look at pretty much every car in detail in the range on pistonheads / AT/ Gumtree & EBAY daily- I have to if I want to survive selling decent cars-

The sales of the vees this year has been Mighty slow, WSSC have had 4 or 5 listings on there for ages & they have sold only 2-

Targa florio havent sold either listing & the price of both of those continue to drop & there have only been a handful of sales of private cars-
Notably the 4k blue one when it dropped to 19k-

What it all means sadly is that whilst the quality of the cars probably are no worse or better than last year, the demand for them is continually being squeezed down & down through how people decide to spend their money-
Also, people have wised up- you will only sell the best car, the best presented ad with the best pictures, if you dont have them- people will gloss over the ad-

Your old car on PH, As a prospective buyer ( which is how I class myself) Doesnt jump off the page to me- minimal information & pictures that dont really do the car much justice, but yet the price tag at the top end of the v6 spectrum-

As much as id like to see them all +15k & phase 1's +10k it isnt going to happen again all the while the recession is biting hard & for the fact that people buy these cars & then have to sell or trade it quickly after realising they cant afford the running costs....

Good luck to the OP on finding a car- & good luck to the person selling the BG-
I would remove those seats though....

For me Steve, you can say what you like and are entitled to your views most of which I actually share :approve:

I think it's easy to get emotive about cars people are passionate about, like any treasured possession ... I tried to maintain the car to the highest standard given it's low usage and never used it in the rain and am happy that I it was passed on in a worthy condition of a cherished car ... as to it's future or value I have no further responsibility but would always be happy to follow its history and provide any information to future owners to continue to build its provenance for the future in the event it may become a future classic at some stage ...

All I know is that when I buy a car I do my research in terms of what I want and what to look for, check the various markets i.e. dealers, e-bay, private ads, other sites, owners forums etc. and buy the best I can afford and try to get the best deal - currently it's a buyers market but there is a car out there for everyone ...

Tis a good price that-

No mention of history though...

could be a bit sparse if its been in storage-

Night all

Willing to tavel to get a decent car thats no problem i know how rare they are and been my dream car i dont want anything to dampen that I have a budget of about 12k and would ideally like a phase 2. so if anyone hears of a decent one about then let me know.
thanks for the replies
Amy

Hi Amy. I usually leave the welcomes to the others but I really hope you buy the vee you deserve. Like you the vee is my dream car. After four years of ownership nothing has changed that or ever will. I dreamt about owing one for years so feel very privileged and lucky to own one. You cant put a price on passion or emotion. If you want a phase 2 then get a phase 2 otherwise you will always wonder what if......
Just wait for the right phase 2 for you to turn up. Any ideas on your colour preference?
Plenty of nice owners on here who will be willing to help you out or show you their vees (both phases to help you decide which you would prefer) and we have plenty of history on the cars for sale.
I am curious to know what sparked your interest in vees? Why is it your dream car? Everyone generally has a fascinating story to tell :)

(As for prices ............. we wont go there!! and as for a vee being just a car ........... I would ignore that bit too!! ;) )

We have a great bunch of people on here and plenty of banter (just dont mention the word ..... p ;) r ;) i ;) c ;) e.... cough cough.....tip: stretch to 13.5k = decent/quality ph2) and hopefully we will see you at a meet sometime in the future :)

(Now runs off into a corner bawling his eyes out and continues sobbing uncontrollably whilst screaming noooooooo unable to believe his vee is only a car....... but he is comforted by the fact that at least Father Christmas is real [smilie=yay.gif] )

That is funny as...
Love the way the font colour changes at the price!

Hi (again) Amy,

If you can read between the lines there are some words of wisdom in all this banter! :)
As AcidV6 argues - there might be some veritable Vee bargains to be had (please avoid the obvious scams as above). His advice about flogging the ST separately is sound.
Good luck with your search! It very difficult not to become attached to these wonderful machines hence Die-Hard owners can quite-rightly get defensive...
...and hopefully you'll become a Die-Hard owner too. :approve:

Who cares what they are worth? Bought mine and its now a keeper. I couldn't care less and neither should any other die-hard owner.

Amy, if you see one you like and are happy handing over what ever money you have to get it, DO IT. You will not regret it. Forget that X says "this is worth this ...", Z saying "its not worth that" and Y stating ""the market says this..." If you were buying a Mondeo then fair enough.
