5 GT Turbo Another Red Renault 5 GT Turbo On It's Way Back To The Road

Let me know if you need any he...
HELP! 🤣

Honestly, thanks for the offer it is much appreciated. And yes, the projects on here are unreal, including yours 😍. As mentioned already, I won't be able to dedicate the time and money that some have, but I'd like to think everything I'll do will be for the right reasons.

That doesn't look too bad, I'd tread carefully at bottom of rear quarter, there's a web strengthening part of the inner rear quarter that ties to bottom edge of the inner sill, get too brave with the slitting disc and it's gone.
I'll bet a pound to a penny most cars that are repaired it doesn't exist any more.
The rear most part of the sill is actually part of the rear quarter panel, ends at the door, spot welded to above mentioned web.
Then sill proper overlaps this joint, hence why they end up with a MOT patch over bust out seam, look at my Camprust thread and other 5 ones on here and it'll make sense.
Top and bottom of my point is, pick patches off, bare metal spot welds, drill them out and pick the panels off. You'll save more of the original structure, it's all there for a reason.
Sills are cheap, even if you don't weld it yourself, you can prep it, know what you want doing and how it should be.
Good luck , great car, there's value in it, therefore worth doing well

Thanks @Turbell for a very informative post. I'll check your thread for the strengthening web you're referring to.

I've got to admit, probably like most, I'm apprehensive about dealing with the bodywork. I'd much sooner strip and rebuild mechanical parts! Oh well, If I approach it with care and take my time, I'm sure I'll be fine.

With mine, @Duncan Grier ,@MOS , @Chris74# Renault 5 welding is nailed on here, all possible, non of it involved panel beating, they're simple construction, outer sills are only things you'd need to buy in, rest is all make able.
Don't cut before asking, keep to one area, find a mobile welder if you can't/ don't feel confident, but if you prepped it right, a good bloke should be happy to crack on.
Know a good man Derbyshire/Notts border if you farm it out, but it would have to go to him.

I’m fortunate that you guys have done it all before and documented it! Thanks again 👍🏻

I’m not an experienced welder, by any means. I’ve done bits and bobs in the past but nothing like this. I’m in no rush though so I’m planning on taking my time and doing it all myself.

Thanks @Duncan Grier , that’s good to hear.
I’ll be honest, the rear beam mounts are scaring me a bit. Really crusty. It all needs doing though so theres no point worrying about it.

I could do with getting the beam off actually but I don’t know hows best to support the shell. I guess I’ll need to use axle stands and chocks. Then once I’ve repaired a section, move the stands around to get the other sections. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Looks fairly isolated to inner/outer sill, rear beam mount will be grotty under top skin.
Boot floor looks sound, chassis legs backwards of the beam mounts look fine, looks straightforward to me, if paint is as presentable as it looks and it's mechanically sound, it's a bobbys job, all depends if you get bogged down making it purty underneath.

@Turbell I love your confidence. hopefully it rubs off on me!

You've touched on something I'm worried about there. I want to get the balance right between how much time and money I'm willing/able to spend vs the outcome I'd be happy with. I want it to be solid and presentable. Ultimately, my main goal is to get it back on the road. Then I can gradually make more improvements from there, if and when I fancy it. I need to be practical. It's fair to say that I'm familiar with a project rabbit hole!
