I was booked in for the French day at Oulton but been having an issue with the head gasket so jumped in with Haz and Robin instead. This did give me the motivation to complete some repairs.
The gasket when removed had corroded around the top of the liners and realised it was one of the gaskets where the fire ring is fitted incorrectly. I have had the now replacement for the blue Corteco gasket. This has now been replaced with the Elring red gasket.
Whilst the head was off I have fitted a Clio 172 cup servo and master cylinder. I have added some pictures as there’s not much information on how to do the conversion.
Clio 172 servo is larger in diameter and has a different pedal attachment.
Picture of pedal connection on GT.
I measured up the distance from the mounting face to the centre of the clevis pin. And cut both ends off. The diameter of the rods is both the same. Machined a collar to join the two parts together.
Carefully welded the sleeves in and kept it cool between weld.
The master cylinder has M10 fitting in the rear the same as the GT. The fronts are M12. I cut off the originals and used a on car flaring tool. The other option is to buy a fitting adapters. The Clio reservoir was removed and the original pipes slot straight in.
The servo was scabby when I got it due to having brake fluid taking the paint off. Cleaned it up rust treated and gave it a coat of satin black.
I had previously fitted the G60 master cylinder as a test but never liked the feel and then the servo started hissing in the car.
The pedal is a big improvement certainly gives more confidence in the brake pedal.
I have also fitted a eBay silicone hose kit in black, as the original pipes were starting to get perished. The top hose didn’t fit very well. Also fitted some H&R springs and Spax dampers over the weekend. Car feels really good to drive now!
