Another cambelt question! Recommended job when changing one.

Hello!

When the cambelt is changed, what other work is generally recomended whilst the engine and gearbox are out?

Thanks,
Dave.

Water pump and clutch have been the most common jobs at cambelt time. It's a far easier job when the engine is out.

Those of us more technical will give information on dephasers.

Starter motors are tending to have magnets disbonding issues, absolute bleep of a job in situ but a doddle on the deck, Auxilliary belt and tensioners/idlers, dual mass flywheels best in the bin and replaced with a TTV or similar on PH2, inspection will probably reveal that it is distorted even though it is still working. Bottom pulley and cambelt pulley to check. Once all done, straight off for a 4 corner alignment check!!
Dephasers only need changing when the death rattle is upon them, they are not a term change item. Can be done in situ.

Thanks for the responses.

Wondered about starter motors. What are the indications they need changing?

What's a dephaser?!

Will ask more about the flywheels in another thread!

Dave.

Had a cambelt in May. Decided to leave the starter motor. And guess what, I've just had the starter motor die, out of the blue, at a petrol station, at midnight...

I also had the TTV fly wheel, new clutch, water pump etc when belt was done. Dephasers can wait.
