Alpine GTA Turbo - V8 Europa Cup Style New Project

I have a guy working on it full time on it at the moment. Parts are going to hold it up soon though, gearbox will be end of Feb, I'm hopeful of it being in and running a couple of weeks after that. I'm wrapping it so thats an easy win. Just the interior and no doubt some electrics to sort out after that. Be fun to drive it for a bit looking ratty and humbling exotica. Be interesting to see what near on 400bhp per ton with rear engined traction can do the 1/4 mile in

11.1-11.3 in my experience Tony should be was with some mechanical symphony retained

That is turbo power mind, seems in the vx220 more power is a lot harder to manage on a road based car

Dave I have that same problem with also with 3 young kids that are very much at home all weekend also lol

I really have to plan my small windows to play cars

Gtas have very good traction, be great to dip into the 10s. I did think low 11s myself. Which is over a second quicker than any of my other cars. Hoping the aerodynamics might make the difference at the top end. Still one of the most aerodynamic cars ever made. Was the most aero efficient car in the world when it was launched in the 80s.

Anything that is very low 11's is bloody quick for a road car. I know the new breed of flappy boxes etc are making very low times easy to repeat but would love a 10sec run in the bag also

I expect the rs3 dsg r5 has the potential but may need scoff to execute it as it is going to be a handful and im a bit scared lol

I can see this conversion been a great all rounder Tony!

All the bits now back to start reassembly . One piece shaft upgrade and Quaife LSD in rebuilt gearbox. Chevy UN1 adaptor kit with flywheel and starter motor. New lower wishbones with all the rest of the mechanical parts powder coated. All bolts , plates brackets etc have been replated. Latest Spax coilover suspension with 2 1/4" springs. Europa Cup spec radiator and new water pipes for cooling. Car will be better than new once it's all back together :0)

Made some progress again the last couple of weeks. When the engine and gearbox were bolted together it through up a couple of problems. Firstly the bellhousing hit on one of the subframe cross braces. This will be easily enough remedied as it can be moved out of the way as we are going to extensively triangulate it anyway to try and withstand the torque.

Worse was the fact that the sump hit on the anti roll bar. After some investigation it turned out a Monaro one would be perfect. Vauxhall were extremely unhelpful and decided they wanted £2k for a new one. Turned out there are loads of custom ones about and picked one up on Ebay Germany for £220.

Some pics of my new hybrid special turbo for my 3.0 GTA. Martin who is building it has designed it especially for my engine spec with the emphasis on driveability but still capable of 350 bhp if required. Martin does a proper job even requesting rolling road graphs to help tailor the spec to the natural powercurve of the engine . Full spec as below (the old turbo spec mentioned was a Turbo Technics T38)
I'm using a Turbonetics 0.48 A/R turbine housing for a 56mm turbine. So old / original compressor inducer 56.13mm dia, my chosen streamline billet wheel is 51.15mm, and the exducer 72.64mm orig, mine 71mm with a 75.5mm extended tip. Old turbine 11 blade 61.34 / 53.33mm inducer / exducer, and mine 10 blade 64.92 / 56.6mm . Hence, ultimate performance is going to be similar, but in my case the 10 blade turbine will spool faster due reduced losses and the compressor wheel smaller inducer off-loading it , coupled with the turbine exducer being larger in diameter will reduce back pressure, to the point I can still make healthy power, yet utilise a small A/R scroll turbine housing, making the whole package spool with more punch.
