Alpine GTA Turbo - V8 Europa Cup Style New Project

Have you spoken to Kevin at GTO for gearbox options or do you know Chris from Telford?
Kevin is in America at the moment. Mark at GT Racing (different company) has been really helpful. GTO are sole agents for the Quaife bits and last time someone bought them it was 2.5k :0(. Is Chris Chris Cole, I've seen his name on some of the forums but haven't got contact details.

Having not looked at the rotation of this lump I have no idea but - when I aligned the rs4 lump in a vx220 while it could fit transverse. I would flip and make a new subframe. Is this an option?

Does the vaux F23 or M32 boxes mate up without much fuss? I know a few high powered vx220 turbos tuning the f23 that are very much still alive and lsd options. All over 400bhp / 400ft lb torque

There is a rover v8 mated to f23 in a vx220 which was a compact solution

Porker box?

Not heard of the Vauxhall box, I'll do some delving. I did ask about flipping the gearbox but the guy said the oil galleries are not in the right place and it can cause issues.

Are the Vauxhall boxes not for transverse fitting? GTA is inline rear engined, not sure how that would work and no adaptors available off the shelf.

Speak to @DaveL485 for contact details of Chris Cole
Kevin also makes his own 6 speed internals for the un1

Ahhh sorry though it was the other way. I thought you needed a transverse box? Which is def more of a challenge

Inline, does the Audi A6 / vw passat fwd box fit? The later one is a lot shorter

A lot of other cheap options will not like the power

What options do the ultima gang use?

The Audi box is the A1OE and is the one they reckon you shouldn't flip. Ultimas generally use Porsche G50 but very expensive compared to even a braand new 6speed UN1 :0(

Upside-down Porsche boxes usually, and theyre very pricey...my buddy got his for a bargain price of £2.5k for a 4wd one, converted it to run 2wd, upside down. Theyre actually very similar in dimensions and layout to the Quadra boxes and are on my list of possibles for my 21 when I blow the UN7 up.

PS Chris Cole is the UN1 walking bible, he builds all of GTO's boxes save the six speed. Talk to him, tell him I referred you (Renault 21 Dave from Coventry)

Cheers for that Dave, he had the one piece shaft kit and quaife on the shelf so I've commissioned him to build me a custom box with those bits in, expensive but at least I'll be able to use the engine to its full potential. And a lot cheaper than some other people are asking . Hi Spec 4 pot calipers with 300mm discs all round also on their way and Spax Krypton suspension with 2 1/2 spring conversion too. Be some nice shiny bits to unwrap next week or two :ag:

Project is now starting to take shape nicely. Rot busting now pretty much done, affected areas all coated with rust inhibitor and will be finished in a special protective paint usually used to protect fibreglass yachts.

Next week should be final body prep and subframe strengthening.

As this is my third GTA project after my Safrane Biturbo engined black car and my 2.9i silver car, I think I'm going to call it Project G4P (Glutton for Punishment.) It's something I have considered for a few years and I had dismissed it to be honest. But then I got offered a cheap GTA Turbo which would have probably sat in my garage as a spares car. But a chance discussion with my very good friend Steve Dell who runs the RAOC changed my mind. He rents half his unit in Bicester to a small 2 man band classic car restorers who have been putting LS3s into Jensen Interceptors. They had been doing a bit of work on Alpines for club members and said they really liked the idea of putting one in a GTA. Turns out the all alloy Chevy lump is only a couple of inches longer than a PRV and if you add on the weight of the turbo is actually no heavy than the PRV.
Work is underway with the original engine and suspension already removed.

Car seems very solid with just one rear turret needing a small amount of welding, although they haven't got to the other area of worry to check for corrosion in the box section where the steering rack lives.
Most of the glass is ok which is a relief as is very hard and expensive to source now.
All suspension etc all removed front and rear

Most of the stripping is now done mechanically and any making good will be done over the next couple of weeks as the parts are assembled for the new V8 subframe.

So plan is to build up a new rear transaxle with new and spare parts I have, that bolts straight in as per original so that the car can be swapped back to original if required. Spare subframe back from shot blasters.

LS3 is Corvette spec 430bhp and the other pic is all the stuff to run it.
