The issue of the unreliability of the coils on the V6 continues to be ignored by Renault. These are not service items! They should be fit for purpose! But the failure rate suggests strongly that they're not!

As the largest Clio V6 owners' club in the UK we plan to approach Renault over this issue, and need some simple facts to present to them.

Therefore please could all members quickly respond to this poll on how many coil failures you have suffered.

Thanks!

Had 4 in total. 1 in the first week when the car was new, and 3 went last year at 9k miles ( Replaced by my garage at my cost )

I've had 4 replace. 2 went at the same time (about 22000 miles) and then the other two at different times (28000 and 31000). But thats only in the 18 months I've owned the car, I'm sure looking at the coils I took out that the weren't the origionals because they had different paint spots on them designating different production batches I think.

I carry a spare now!

2 coild failed @ the same time around sept/oct last year - replaced @ my cost as was quicker to order coils & change myself than wait the 2 weeks local renault dealer quoted to get my car in to fix

I had 1 go last year @ my cost via Renault working out at about £210.

I think the previous owner had 2 changed aswell.

So at this point there have been 10 posts, or 60 coils.
Of which at least 10 have failed.
Thats 17 percent!!!!!! Nearly one in 5!!!
But oh no Renault, there's no problem with the coils.
Plonkers!

Unless they have been replaced under warranty Renault will only have a record of sales.

As I have said previously unless you have told Renault they are not to know.

First coil replaced 01/07/04, then again 18/01/05. the last one cost Renault £790.40 inc. V.A.T.

They know about these any way.

If you want to carry this on you will have to get ALL the facts down, no good saying you purchased a coil to replace a faulty one.

Yeah I haven't had to replace any either - is there a typical year or manufacter vs failure? Obviously there's the whole 'dodgy batch' thing, but mines an 05 plate for example (March 05) - does there seem to be a year of manufacter where the problem started and a year where there doesn't seem to be any problems, does anyone know?

Took the vee out today and its misfiring like mad (sounds like a Scoobie...lol)

Looks like I spoke to soon and tempted fate :(

Engine covers off.

Start it up and stick head over front and rear of engine on tickover. See if you can try to hear which cylinder isn't firing.

Then un-plug the connector from the top of the suspect coil. When you get the correct one it'll not make any difference to the sound. The wrong ones will make it sound worse.

Then IIRC 8mm socket to remove the offending coil
