Aerial - useless radio reception

Mr Webb

The radio in my 2003 Mk2 crackles and will not stay on a channel whilst moving along and the AF indicator is constantly flashing.
SMC Woking checked the aerial and found no problems so thought it must be the unit. I have just had the unit back after 7 weeks (supposed to be 14 days max!!), they fitted it and exactly the same problem remains. We checked another unit in the car and the same problem.

They have said the only way to check the aerial is to remove all the headlining - as they have been totally incompetent so far I am reluctant to let them do this!

A salesman there told me the interference could be due to all the technology in the car!

Has anyone else had this problem and would an aerial booster fitted behind the radio help?

Would suspect that the aerial plug at fault.

Could be the outer copper sheaf is touching the plug or the main core in the plug broken.

Try and borrow another aerial just to plug into the radio to see if it cures the problem.

Check all connections from the aerial or run a new cable back to the radio and see what happens.

Bad earth may be.
