abs problems

right were do i start some of u will no from rsc i am havin problems with my bendix abs on my k plate 19 16v the motor has packed in and im not willing pay 1500 for a new unit so was advised to rip it out and put servo and master cylinder in.

so today started to rip it out got everything off upto the unit behind the brake pedal

so here it is can i get away with taking the exhaust manifold off or do i have to take the engine out so i can get the brake unit out and get the servo and cylinder in

Use it as an opportunity to give the bay a clean etc.

I honestly doubt you'll be able to get the exhaust manifold off with the engine in the car. Simon (Wicked Neo on here) has done it before but whenever I've removed an exhaust manifold I've had to bash fuck out of it with the head sat on the bench.

Yep, tbh when I think about it it still astounds me how anyone manages to get it off while in situ.

it doesnt look to bad covered it in wd before i left her on the ramps there are a few fiddly bolts will have a go tomorow and if i dnt get any where and have to take the engine out then o'well gives me chance clean the lump

also with the engine out you'll be able to get to the brake lines which will need replacing (at least the rear ones up to the bulkhead)

i started again today got manifold off was'nt to bad have dne worse taken the heat shield off the abs unit was just bout get it out and got dragged off do an engine swap in a crapso i will try do sum more 2moz it a bit tight but im sure will get the servo in with out takin engine out

we got te manifold of mine to replace the subframe with the engine in the bay then had to suspend the engine off a beam to get the frame out...damaged a driveshaft gaiter getting the manifold out btw

i done mine (with engine in) to put my 4 branch manifold in, took all the studs out with a stud extractor and the mani lifted out the top :D

ph2 manifolds normally come off ok.

ph1's come off in situ if the manifold was taken off on the bench
