987.1 Porsche Cayman S

Car looks fantastic, and is/was a serious choice for me to upgrade my R26. Agree with you on the track driving, great way to spend a lot of money but there is a fair risk.

What do you reckon to the running costs on the Cayman? I suspect the mpg is probably pretty comparable to the R26, but what’s servicing like?

Time will tell, but initial thoughts on the running costs:

Insurance is cheaper than a modded R26, but the tax cancells that out as its the highest band.

Its a lot worse on fuel than an R26 - I'm getting around 21mpg - my 1st tank I only got 18 out of - 25 is the max you'll ever get out of it, but it doesn't drink that much more fuel when you are driving it like an animal. I used to get 28/29 out of the megane.

90% of the 987 caymans have the optional 19s, but with the 18s, the front tyres are 235 40 18, and the rear 265 40 18 - so £550 for a set of N rated porsche tyres fitted in this size.

Service intervals are very generous - 20k, or 2 years. This has just had a major (4 years, inc drive belt and spark plugs etc), you need to do the brake fluid every 2 years as well, there's actually a separate page in the service book for those stamps.

I think you're looking at 300-500 for a service, but they are only every 2 yearss.

having a car without the PASM (sports suspension) is cheaper as well if any of the suspension components are needing re-freshed.

Surprised that it’s worse on fuel [emoji23][emoji23]

Still, having a really nice NA engine does make up for an awful lot. That and a pretty huge service interval, 20k Miles is pretty decent.

It’s a gorgeous car, much better looking than the R26

There's been loads of snow up here of late and not really been ideal hooning conditions at all sadly, but finally some warmer temps had the chance to drive the car in a bit more anger - I'm quite surprised at how stiff and tight the chasis of the car is if I'm being honest. Especially coming from a car on Coilovers and also the fact I don't have the factory PASM option to make the dampers stiffer.

One thing is for sure, the car is far more capable than I am able as a driver ha

One of the things that I have noticed in this coming from the R26 is that people on the road treat you far far differently, they are more courteous to an overtake - its almost as if they expect you to do it in the Porsche. In the R26 you'd get flashed all the time for a safe textbook overtake at part throttle.

Found out that the car has a 6CD changer - would of loved that in 2002 lol

Gave the car a proper wash.

Citrus Pre Wash
CarPro Detar
Alloy Wheel wash
2 Bucket
The ultimate cheat tool Gyeon Q2M spray on sealant
Tire's Dressed with Meg's Endurance

and had a chance to pop out for some nice pics with the car all clean

This car has been sold!

Time to move on to something else.

It was a little bit too tight for me legroom wise, and it was far too pristine for me lol.

I dreamed of owning this car for years, and I did it, but it was time to move on, time for another renaultsport!

Oooooh, RenaultSport..... This'll be interesting!

Test drive the new Meg 4?
I'd be lying if I said it hadn't crossed my mind!

I think I have my heart set on a mk3 megane tbh - the best roads near where I live are always littered with stones, so I'll enjoy a car thats 5 or 6 years old I think that I won't have to worry about keeping the paintwork immaculate.
