19 93 Renault 19 RT TD moon miles

Hi all, new to the forum. Here's my new to me R19 Ph2 1.9 TT TD with enough miles to make it to the moon and half way back at 413k 😎

I plan to keep it relatively original, with just some tidy wheels.

So far I can see it needs:
  • Some welding to the rear arch. Any advice on whether there are repaire panels available would be welcome
  • New front springs and shocks
  • New doors seals. Anyone know if new seals.are available to buy?
  • New windscreen. I suspect the frame may be rusty so will need to repair that also.
Its had the same owner for 20 years who apparently toured Europe for some time in it. If you're on this forum 👋 I'd love to know more about it.

Excited for the next chapter.

I saw this on ebay, impressive.

Stick up some more photos please!

Should be able to get arch repair panels from carz2

By door seals I assume you mean the outer glazing seals? These are the bane of every 19 owner's life. Not available for love nor money, however there are a couple of solutions for the one along the bottom of the window.

Sure will I'll get some later on. I'll also be making a YouTube series on our channel so I'll post the link of anyone would be interested in watching.

Yes it's the window seals, not the door ones 🤦🏼. I suspected they'd be hard to get. I've even tried looking on French websites 🤣

What's the solution for the bottom seals? Is there a link I can find?

Thanks for the reply 😊

Brilliant thank you.

Here's another question. I appear to have a hidden key mech in the glove box. I think I've tracked it to the relay box in the passenger side wing, interrupting this yellow wire.

I think that yellow wire goes to the fuel shut off solenoid on the pump.

The key doesn't seem to make any difference when switched on or off. Can anyone think of a reason for someone doing this?

Hi and welcome! Thats some mileage :)

Looks like your throttle spindle has worn seals and it's leaking diesel, mine did this also and I got some new seals for it. When I did (some ten or more years ago) I got spares also, they're still in the garage even though I got rid of the 19TD in 2012 lol - Yours if you want them for postage costs.

Dave that's mighty kind of you sir! Would be happy to take them off your hands for sure - can I chuck some money towards a charity of your choice, if you're insistent I can't give you anything for them 😊

If you can find some suitable generic seal for the sunroof please let me know!

You can get an adapter to make the column stalk work with a JVC head unit.

That's a handbrake cable in the boot.

It's not a 16V steering wheel, GTS-X perhaps. Same style but the 16V one is thinner and has perforated leather.

Careful with the heater controls. If it's at all stiff then the flaps in the heater box are starting bind up and the knob will just break off in your hand.

Neal - I will try but I'm certainly heeding to the expertise from you guys at the minute 🤣

Thanks for the info on the other stuff! The handbrake cable looks attached to something - will have to do some digging. I'm usually gentle with my knob, not to worry 😉🤣

Drop me a PM with your address :)
Messaged, sir :)
Nice video’s sir!!
Thank you 😁

Also, I reached out to the garage who had been servicing my old Renault for the past 20 odd years - they've replied with all the service history they hold against the car for my records
🙂

Even better, they passed my details onto the previous owner as they knew him well and he's just given me a call. Sweet old guy in his 80s. Former engineer and the car took him to all his meetings in most European countries. I could have listened to him chat about it for hours.

My fave story is about how he took his two young daughters to France with him for one job to make it a mini Holiday. They stopped outside a quirky French shop that his girls loved. The name of the shop was Gabrielle, so the girls donned the car with the name Gabrielle from then on.

They're not just steel boxes on wheels, after all
🙂
Long live Gabrielle
❤️
