?55k 440bhp audi RS6 beaten by F reg Renault!!

well i never said it was a fair race(i had a massive head start he was stuck behind the vectra) or he was trying his hardest but i defo suprised him by how fast my 21 was and i've alredy proved that my quoted top speed of 162 is wrong.

atleast its been a good talking point!!

Graham...you failed to mention that a certain jet-wash fried one if the ECU's on the Audi lol......so in fairness you raced half an S4 lol

I too have raced an RS6, and whilst I got lucky off the lights, for the remainder of the race, he was sat so far up my arse......his bonnet was nudging my sump and his main beam was shining out the front of my turbo.......... 8)

LOL@Dave and Kentish....i had a go with a Testosterossa on way from Max Live and that was a tad amusing. It was like he was flicking me off his shoulder :D

just cos they got a awsum car

DONT MEAN THEY KNOW HOW TO DRIVE IT !!!!!!!!! standard reno 21t 2wd V porshe 911 turbo N I WON LOL PMSL POWER CORRUPTS AN ABSOLUTE POWER breaks traction the porshe steps sideways im sailing my boat fighting the torque steer HES SHITE IM SELF LIFTED OFF GAME OVER

Erm

"plus racing off the line also depends on how well you launch, i once kept up with a ferarri testerossa (0-60 in 5.4sec) from the lights up to 80mph at which point the aero-dynamic brick that is the 21 got well and trully wasted."

Mr Kentish, don't be so quick to judge the good ol'21T on it's shape.

It has in std form an aerodynamic shape of some pedigree, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.31. This probably means sweet FA to most of you so i'll put it in perspective.
It is more aerodynamic than a Ferrari F40 (Cd 0.34) and even a Noble F1 (0.32). It's on par with a couple of porche's like the 924 and the odd 996, and a lexus sc430.
If you lower the car, and change those 'air brake' wing mirrors :D it'll drop to Cd .30 (ish).

It may be look square, but it's no brick....

Ha ha ha

Sorry guy's I had to do it.

Check it out man, the festertosser is a FLYING BRICK compared to the 21Turbo!!! Cd of 0.36!!!!

PMSL

This is fun

Another galloping spongebob squarepants, our original topic subject, the RS6.

Cd 0.35

At least we beat it on something LMAO

Ok Mr.Aero-norak, (dig the gag  )

Have you any idea what rather tragic and definitive homo-coupe matches the 21T in the aerodynamic stakes? 8)

Its otherwise known as a Cavalier in a shellsuit, the Calibra. Thats about all it shares mind.

As for lowering and removing the mirrors, d'ya mean like ive done? :D
But then the wing ive fitted will probably gimme a cd147 or summat lmao

LOL

Good old calibra eh? Good aerodynamics, but handles like a steaming turd, stops like it's only got one brake disc and makes everyone think you wear a medallion and fake chest hair

dave .......
it sounds like you speek from experiance about the calibra lol

does europa front bumper raise the cd factor ??????

LMFAO

(Replying from rogers PC)

NO WAY dude, NEVER owned a heapo calibra. Drove one far enough to realise my life was in danger, felt like it was made of papier mache.

Oh, Thats why I stick with std body, that bit fat bumper of yours is about on par with a parachute  :D

He he he

Nah, it wont be that bad....being lower to the floor is a benefit actually. It will result in more drag but id only worry about that if you want huge top end, like over 140.

Here you go.

Aerodynamic Drag
You Don?t Get Something for Nothing
Mount a wing upside down on your racecar and, when the car moves through the air, the wing will press the car to the track surface, giving more grip. But it?s not free. Just as airplane engines are needed to overcome the drag of the plane, a racecar engine has to overcome the drag of the car, including the wings.

There is a basic equation for the force it takes to push something through air:

Aerodynamic drag = 1/2 D x A x Vsquared

In this equation, D is the density of the air, A is the frontal area of the moving shape, and V is its velocity relative to the air.

For real body shapes, air at standard conditions, V in mph, and drag in pounds of force, this equation becomes:

Drag = 1/391 x Cd x A x Vsquared

This equation shows that to calculate drag you need to know three things: Cd, the drag coefficient; A, the frontal area of whatever you?re driving through the air; and the speed of air past it. This equation shows an important point?aerodynamic forces are proportional to the square of the speed. That means you quadruple the drag or lift when you double the speed.

The drag coefficient, Cd, is important because, in concert with frontal area, it determines the power cost of pushing a shape through air at a certain speed. A small, low-Cd road car will have a higher top speed than a larger, boxier car with the same engine power.

Here are measured drag coefficients for some basic shapes. These numbers come from tests of shapes with known cross sectional areas. You blow air over them and measure the force on the shape. That?s what wind tunnels do. The arrow in front of the shape gives the direction of the air blowing over the shape. The cone shape, for example, would have a lower Cd if it were rotated so the air saw the flat end first.

Notice the difference in the Cd of a long and short cylinder. You probably know that a slippery road car has a Cd of about 0.32. A chunky one is 0.38.

I Found this

This graph is a great example of how aerodynamics affects speed and efficiency.

Take the bottom line (red) as a Renault 25 2.0GTX, Cd 0.29 (believe it or not!)
Next one up Cd 0.30 (green)
Next one up Our beloved at 0.31 and so on (dark blue)

See how much more horsepower it takes to get the higher speeds with worse aerodynamics....

dave

you have proved why you diserve the title of prof. anorak

.......

hi guys. The most i ever got was 147 mph in my blue ph2.

Its not the gearing that screws the 21 top speed, its the cast iron spec engine

The 21 is highier geared than the legacy, but the legacy revs to nearly 8k rpm. Which is why its no fun sometimes, it lacks the ooomph.

Ive had stupid cars like clio sports and rs turbos and even an Sti imprezza up my rectum up to 60-80 mph, then i select 3rd and its bye bye (except for RX-7, that was 150, then bye bye :D )

Ive driven a s4 twin turbo and its not breath taking, but the grunt is spank-tastic. 40 mph, fith gear, plat foot, watch it go!!

As for ferraris, i was driving a full race spec austin healey (3ltr) at le mans circuit (not 24 hour) and was playing with a magnum Pi type ferrari and gave it a good run for its money. So later when a 355 came up behind, i thought 'here we go'. I wouldnt let it past on corners and thought 'take that' but then a striaght came, i floored car, it flew, then i got reverse, slammed on brakes, ejected pararchute and hit a wall (thats what it seemed like) and this 355 just vanished, never seen anything like it! Not to mention the driver still had time to give me the finger for bloking him!

Wouldnt it be nice to get a car thats like shit of a stick of the line, does 200 mph, handles like a dream but you can take granny shopping and cost about ?3000 oh, and does 35-40 mpg!

Ah well, will just stick to 2 cars instead.

have fun

kieran

ps, cant wait to race a super car thats limited to 155mph, i would laugh my head off while i pass it :P unitl i get done for speeding or crash

its orate dave, me forgive you, lol
as for the calibra digs, my dad owns a calibra turbo (dtm limited edition), 0-60 in mid 6's!!! 157 indicated top speed!
its on koni adjustables all round and lowered 40mm, the thing did stick to the road like shi* to a blanket, but then decided to melt the #2 piston! and shag the bore to boot.

but i was really impressed qwhen i drove it, floor it off the line and it doesn't really wheelspin just chirps them a bit and fucks off!

an i correct in saying the audi rs6 test for the traction control system was the one done in front of loads of mags and camewras etc, they just put their foot to the floor in first till rev limiter, dropped the clutch and it got no wheelspin, it just went bye bye.
sure thats the one, it was one of the audis that they did that for.
sure it was the rs 6

stevenford_uk, sorry pal, but it can't be true. I mean this part:
audi rs6 test for the traction control system was the one done in front of loads of mags and camewras etc, they just put their foot to the floor in first till rev limiter, dropped the clutch and it got no wheelspin, it just went bye bye.
As far as I know all RS6 have automatic transmission. No clutch pedal at all.

i might be mistaken, but i am sure i read an article in a car mag about one of the audis doin that.
dunno. impressive if it does, lol

RS6

"Chewed up and spat out". Came up behind a RS6 today on the A264 between Horsham and Crawley. Just as i came down to a roundabout, he was sitting in front of me with a Saab turbo at his side. All that came to mind was! (so how fast is that RS6). It did'nt take him long to see the big (21) in his rear view mirror. As he came off the roundabout his foot went down and off he went. ( GUYS I'VE SEEN BETTER ) . So when he stopped for the next roundabout and looked at me, with that hard luck m8 look on his face, i wiped it off for him. For the next 1/4 mile 21's rule 8) . Oh yes their quick, but he never got in front of me, and when i lifted off and he came along side, there was that look of respect. One up for the 21t. :D :D :D
