5 GT Turbo and dash questions

Hi all!
I am in the process of sorting out my bro in laws 5 GT turbo (G reg).
I have a question regarding the turbo. The previous owner thought it would be a good idea to play about with the turbo actuator. Is there a way to check it is set to a sensible boost? As the poor bloke who has to replace the clutch and the headgasket I dont want to have to do the same again in a couple of months!

Also, the dials/lighting behind the dials flicker and occasionally die. They usually come back on if you hit the top of the housing. Is this a common problem? Is it just a bad connection? is it easily fixed?
Ive not taken anything apart yet but if the circuit board is faulty for example there is no point in dismantling it until I have another one.

Any hints or tips gratefully received!

its a called a boost guage. Is the standard dash one still plumbed in?

the dash bulbs will be blown, when you hit it the filamnets touches and they work for a while.

std boost gauge on the clocks, IIRC about 2/3 of the way is about 14psi, unless it goes further than that you'll be ok on std fuelling for the time being, but best get it set up asap

as for dials, the visor is clipped, sharply hit it upwards (mind the windscreen) and there are two tiny torx bolts that hold the instrument panel in, remove, and then prise the top corners out from the clips, then check the 3 wiring plugs along the top.

also, if ya dash lights flicker, check the dimmer under the wiper switch... if in doubt, join the connectors together with a 10amp fuse, lights should be on full brightness

I wonder how many bang the top off and then see its been glued as it rattles and they have just destroyed their dash...

Mine wasnt glued either, just pull it hard and it should come off relatively easy

yes as everyone including their granny knows the dash cover thing is clipped. However pretty much every single one I have ever seen the clips are broken and its glued in or jammed in with paper.

I mean for fucks sake get a grip boys. So yours haven't been glued or jammed in, does that means every other one hasn't? No I said watch out for somehting, what a waste of my fuckign time dealing with you lot is sometimes.

Maybe you should watch if the steering wheel as been glued. or the window is held up with a paper clip. The cover might have have been stuck down with blue tac, black tac or even white tac. Shall we go for paper mache as well. Or even chewing gum. The cover is held on by clips, dont need to confuse the person by going in every scenario in what could be holding it down.

i was only trying to help in the 1st place too....

should have said 'bangs up, watch the windscreen mind, there may be a small squirrel holding it on with its teeth'
