3 Years: A Summary (Pic. Heavy)

Will

New Member
I wasn’t sure where to put this thread on the forum as it’s a long story as much as it is a show of pictures:

It's just over 3 years to the day since I purchased my V6 on July 29th 2011, so I thought I would share some pictures and memories of my time with the Vee so far.
I still remember the day I bought the car well… The car had been for sale at a prestige car dealer in Bury, some 10 miles North of Manchester. The only problem was I living and working in Surrey, and try as I might to get the time off work to go up there and see the car I just couldn’t… my boss had gone on holiday to Florida for several weeks and thus with it any chance of getting the day off had vanished.

It was then I thought this is a car I really want, perhaps if I paid costs the dealership would be willing to drive the car down for me to inspect… Success! They agreed, as I had made clear how keen I was to see the vehicle in person, so on my Friday lunch break I headed the short distance home and waited eagerly for the sight of the car coming around the corner.

After around 10 minutes (although it felt like much longer) I heard it, then I saw it. The driver drew up with a big grin on his face, clearly he had enjoyed the last 240 miles in particular the last couple of miles taking in the then 2 day old Hindhead Tunnel. Pleasantry’s were exchanged, it transpired he owned a Clio 197 and was a big fan of the V6. My attention then turned the matter of inspecting the vehicle and checking through it’s long and detailed history folder followed by a short test drive.

To my eyes (and ears) everything checked out and deal was made, the driver was given a lift to the nearest Enterprise Car Rental depot so he could head back north and I was the happy new owner of Phase 1 V6 No. 0004.

With the power of hindsight and knowing substantially more about Clio V6’s now perhaps I would have raised a few more questions and maybe I let my heart rule my head a little but it’s nothing major and certainly has not diminished my enjoyment of the car these past 3 years.

I finally introduced myself to this forum on August 3rd 2011, having been signed up since 2008 in the long held anticipation of owning a V6 at some stage. Since then I have met some wonderful people through this club at various meet’s including my first at the PistonHeads Sunday Service on September 11th 2011 at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands.

Any questions I have asked on here no matter how seemingly obscure have been answered very promptly and in a friendly manner, this club truly is a credit to James and all those behind the scenes who help make this forum and the club as a whole the success that it is and I thank you all very much and if anyone reading this is thinking of taking the plunge and signing up hopefully this will serve as a prompt to do so.

The response from People to the car has been unanimously positive, whether young or old, male or female… I’ve looked out the window on occasions at work to see people taking pictures of it, I was a at petrol station at 3.30am and someone came across the forecourt just to ask about the car and to again take a few pictures. I was in Tesco’s car park not long ago when a man who was halfway to the exit turned his own car around and parked up again just to have a look and there are so many other great moments it’s created, I even found a picture of it in the local paper following an event.

Now If you’ve made it this far, then well done and I apologise If I have rambled on a bit but I just thought I would end by sharing some pictures from the last 3 years, some you may have seen before and others you may not.

Nice write up mate and nice to have pictures to help remember it all. I like the pic next to the little rover metro cabriolet. Iv never new such thing existed.

Great story. You've got a very nice car there, keep enjoying it!

I'm a new owner and the moments of happiness it has given me are countless... The best investment of my life.

A fantastic journey down memory lane Will, even though it is only 3 years long - I feel exactly the same way :approve:

Brave move buying the Vee the way you did, but guess it has been worth it.

I too acquired #002 around the same time as you, and PH Sunday Service at MB World was my first meet too, so nice to see some photos.

Enjoy!

Glad to see you still enjoying the car mate ,but why was I under the impression you'd sold her a while back?

Thank you. I try to always get a few pictures at event’s and shows, as you say it’s a way of remembering the day. I too had never seen a Metro Cabriolet before that day and haven’t seen one since, I don’t know if it was a special conversion or a factory option…

Thank you, they really are great fun even using it as an everyday car as I do now :).

3 years doesn’t seem that long but there have been so many enjoyable moments I felt like looking back at them.
Would I buy a car the same way again? Tough to say, as the costs for them to deliver the car for an inspection really wasn’t too bad and they were aware that if it wasn’t as they described I wasn’t going to buy it. I would have preferred to travel up to them in all honesty but it just wasn’t an option at that exact moment unfortunately and other v6‘s in budget were a bit thin on the ground at the time.

Yeah still proving fun, I can only hope the years to come do too. I don’t know why you were under the impression I had sold it though, I sold the 172 Cup last year and had a for sale ad in the classifieds section on here but other than that I’m not sure… :s

Lovely write up Will, and do good to see how much you're enjoying the car.. and the club for that matter too.

Do you still have pics of the little tunnel run we had, parked up at the Thursley junction? Have a couple, but the quality isn't great.

Look forward to catching up with you at Goodwood! :approve:

Thank you :), I have so many other Pictures, with various other v6's but didn't want to go over the top and post too many. I seem to only have the one picture from the Thursley Junction though:

I am looking forward to Goodwood, not long now :). It would be nice to get as many of those who attend and stay to the Sunday to head through the tunnel again if arrangements aren't already set it stone, I would try and get a video this time... :race:
