21 Turbo 21 Turbo ABS diagnostics

Hi all. Does anyone know what would have been the way Renault would have diagnosed ABS faults back in the day?
I have use of a xr25 but that doesn’t seem to cover ABS on the 21 (it does for all other models with ABS though 😡)
I know I can test resistance for sensors etc but doubt that’s how it was done?

Intermittent yellow abs light. I know it’s likely sensor or ring and I can test for that.
Yesterday the red brake/park came on and the brake assist failed, then 10 miles later sorted itself out. Im interested to see if the car has the capability to diagnose it’s own faults to some degree

If the light goes out or is intermittent then it's likely the ABS target ring. If a sensor is down its on permanently. Likely the front targets as the 4WD rears are well protected. IIRC its a 96 tooth ring.
