200hp C1J

So my engine is going out this winter due to headgasket fail. And while i'm at it id really like to up the HP. My goal is somewhere between 150-200hp on a carbed C1J.
So i'm asking any tunners who had done that what do i need to do to get there.

T25, fmic big down pipe and exhaust with a proper carb setup will see 200 all day long. I built up a 1.8 16v 5 before, reliable bar the inlet cracking, and core plugs failing on the way back from Germany. Good fun but la king the kick of a turbo.

£1200 is a good price but quite high a cost for 150-200bhp which is easily attainable with a carb for the price of a £2. i know full well efi is better all round but would i do it again? no probably not, in my personal opinion

thanks for all your responses.. i appreciate it.

well here's the thing about swaping engines. i'd love to swap for b18ft but there's a catch.. every modification we do on our cars in our country has to be homologated to be road legal.. that means you have to have TUV paper in order to proceed with homologation. Installing a volvo (even tho it's a renault) engine and make it legal is impossible. We can install in let's say a 5 whatever engine it came out of factory with. So i could install in my gtt: 1.1 campus, 1.4 n/a, 1.4 energy, 1.7 n/a, 1.6 diesel and THAT'S IT. 1.8 16v didn't came installed in any 5 from factory there for impossible to make it road legal.
We can ofcourse install it and drive around illeglay, we can even pass MOT if you have any connections inside, to overlook the engine mod...but if any copper finds out or sends you to a detalied MOT (where he sees fit) and they found out you installed and drove around with illegal mods, your car looses it's registration, you pay 400€ in fines and in worst case scenario, your car gets crushed.

Every single modification we do to our cars.. doesn't matter if it's changing bumpers, lowering, installing wheel spacers, etc etc... it has to be homologated or you can't pass a MOT (if you don't have any connections) and cops can mess you up pretty bad with fines. So my only option is to do some internal mods on a original engine. Since they don't have rolling roads on MOTs to actualy check if you are running OEM KW.

That's how it is in our country :/ Ofcourse we do run around with illegal mods and get away with it.. but it's reasky.
So F7P/R, F4R, B18FT lumps are out of the question. And besides i'd like to keep my car as original as possible. Even tho i absolutly hate carbed engines and want to EFI it ..it has to be done that way :)
Right now EFI modding C1J is abit out of my budget and besides it's hard to fine a decent tunner to fine tune the engine once it's converted.

Hars indeed. I'm so jelous of you brits that you can do whatever you want to your cars and get away with it. I'd love to put in something beastly but i just cant :)
you first have to take the engine out and overhaul it with new parts .
then an :
t 28 or t 25 turbo
285 cam
clutch that can handle the Newton meters of torque
"group A carb "
big downpipe and exhaust
maybe low comp . pistons
big intercooler
thats the way to make it happen i think
correct me if am wrong .
and your bank account is empty at the end of the build :read.gif:

butt than you have a realy fast r 5 that you can drive every time with a big :grin.gif:

thats what i always have when driving my 221 horsepower 1,5 bars of pressure litle 5 gtti

I know, its getting worse though most older cars are left untouched, some cars over have now become mot exempt, so no tax no test!

@Brigsy is the guy to talk to regarding carb setup, along with the old jedi of a carb tuner @Mart, both wizzards with the solex
