1987 Renault Trafic Engine Swap

Hello everyone, I'm looking at a 1987 Renault Trafic campervan with a 1721cc F1N engine and I was wondering what's the highest spec that would be fit for a swap? Will the mount and gearbox fit a F9x? I read on this forum that F8Q will definitely fit, but I was wondering if I can push it even further to get a really modern and efficient engine into it.

Also, I couldn't find any information about changing the gearbox? Is it worth it? Is it even possible? If yes - what are the options and is it expensive?

My main concern is to get the camper to a modern and efficient mechanical standard as the build of the interior is really good, but I'm slightly worried about travelling around on 35 year old mechanics.

Thanks in advance!

I think i'd be tempted to chuck a tuned R5 GTT engine in there. 170hp is fairly easily achievable and its mounted in a similar way to the 1721, on mounts at the bottom. The later engines all have at least one suspended mount which will need fabrication on the body.
