Clio 197 cup turbo

So been a while since I updated this.
I got these, in 8x17".

Had to fit one!

Done lots of little bits, cleaning up and painting like the rad support, exhaust mounts and front suspension legs.

The main thing is I finally got the engine in. Ended up removing the aircon as as a cylinder in one of the pipes was rubbing on my 3" decat!

Been working out the little items. Wasn't happy with the position of the intercooler. To mount it so the tanks lined up I had to modify it to get around the leg as i'm using the clio rad.

Will probably make a duct for it too!

Driveshafts are all stripped and painted, even my bumper grilles

Got to sort out the loom next and get the shafts and legs back in.
Nearly forgot, I fitted the exhaust too!

So It's getting there.

So my loom is done.
I used the diagrams from 197.net to change the 3 fuse box plugs over. It's not a simple change the terminals though. Well not for all three. One is actually the same plug just needed to move them about, the others had to be cut and soldered.

I stripped the whole loom, layed it in to check it all and retaped it in a fabric tape.

Think it would've helped if I'd removed the engine from the meg! There's so many little bits missing.

If i did it again I'd buy a car and sell off the spare bits.

There's a how to on 197.net. unfortunately it's lost it's pics for most of it but these are still there. Has some drawn diagrams. This is for a phase 2/R26 loom.

So it's up and running. Have a slight issue with the clutch. It's an R26r with smf flywheel, new sachs slave cylinder which I filled before fitting! First time I tried it after a bleed it's seriously heavy and after a couple of pumps it blew the hose off.

I've heard this can happen so I bled it again and tied the clip so it Can't come off. But the clutch is still unbelievably heavy.

With it pressed it does go into all gears but I haven't put the shafts etc in yet as I wanted to make sure everything was good!

Clutch plate fitted like this.

Any one have any suggestions??

No idea on 197's or 225 setup but what is the hydraulic clutch setup differences?

I have had to tweak slaves / pedal travel pivot points on other conversions to keep pressure of pedal and correct travel acceptable

May have nothing to do with this conversion mind :)

Turns out the meg plate fits the opposite to 197 one. Hence my problem. Killed the new slave in the process.

I did ask the question when I fitted it but got the wrong info. Nothing comes up on the interweb at all.

New slave recieved today, refitted the clutch to find one of the pressure plate bolts was about to loose it's head! So another wasted evening of not being able to get on with it!

We only keep imperial bolts at work!!

So the gearbox is back in, with a new slave and cover bolts, the clutch was reset, thanks @bloke and it all goes into gear ok. Now just got one drive shaft and suspension leg and a few minor finishing touches to get it ready for mapping.

Was hoping to go to around the 300 mark but after a friend's has ringland issue's I think I'll keep it a little restrained with Chris at efi's recommendations and keep it as reliable as possible until I can build a forged engine.

when you in for mapping?

Was hoping this week! But our company van is being used for storage for a few weeks and I Don't have a tow bar!

Got the other driveshaft and leg in this morning along with the evol dog bone mount.

Went to fit the brace across the subframe and one of the plates has disappeared into the subframe!!! Due to one of the studs coming out when I removed it and then dropping the subframe. So it's getting close.

How she sits at the moment.

Still got a few bits to do like adjust the bonnet catch, Wheelarch liners and scuttle etc.

Make a panel around the air filter to try and limit the heat soak and make up a duct around the intercooler.
Got a cold air feed to the air filter so it should help.20180814_234321.webp.

Mapping is going to be on the 15th with Chris at efi.
Better get it mot'd asap!
