10 year cambelt service - parts to order?

ColinG

New Member
So I'm going to get my cars second cambelt service done this winter, and anything else that's recommended to be changed at the same time.. But I'm not 100% sure which parts to order from RPD

I'm a bit confused with the cambelt kit, do I also need the separate service kit? Clutch is obvious, what about water pump? What's an auxiliary belt?

Any help or advice much appreciated :)

You should change cambelt, idlers and tensioner
Aux belt and idlers, tensioner
I'd change water pump , fuel filter
Engine oil & filter
Gearbox oil
Plugs,
Air filter, pollen filter,
Check over disks/pads etc
De- phaser / cam pulleys check
Coolant change
Brake fluid change
And clutch/ slave cylinder

And make sure you see your bank manager first.

Why do we do the clutch when doing the cambelt? I'm confused by this and hesitant to do it as mine is fine....

Are you going anywhere local Colin? I have been thinking Rentec Autocare.

I changed my clutch plate as it's simple to do whilst engine was out, and not to expensive in parts
Didn't want to do it a later point , you could simply get it checked out during works

I would imagine that it's a good time to check the clutch, it may feel ok, but upon inspection it might be nearing the end of its life, and it makes sense to replace it whilst the other work is being carried out.
I take it your guy will be dropping the engine out to do the work.

Cost to do it when engine out anyway is minimal compared to cost to do with when the engine has to come out for the specific task!

Thanks guys top advice so far, KW's will be fitted at the same time so I'm budgeting £3k+

I think I'll see how cheap I can get a loan lol :(

Ben is rentec up at Edinburgh? I'm sure in my book of invoices they did it last time for Alex??

Thats right, I have had the MOT and a service done by them. IainT uses them I believe, Alex must have and I think Dulan used them when he picked his Ph1 up

Ben, Colin, Ali and anyone else from Scotland and borders?

Do any of you fancy looking into a group buy so to speak on this kind of work at Rentec for example?

cheers

Yes I'm interested in a group buy, been thinking about the 2nd cambelt service recently.

Rentec in Edinburgh is on my shortlist, as is Dreadnought Garage in Callander, already tested the water with Dreadnought on a couple of minor bits and bobs and I am very impressed with them, I'm sure most folk would rather stick to a Renault specialist though.

Wasn't there a group buy at Rentec a few years ago?

I would be happy to kick it off but I'm around 50 miles away so would be by phone, would it better having a chat face to face?

As an aside, whilst the engine is out have a peer through the various holes to the rear sills (if you can actually see anything, not checked from the inside to be honest). Potential corrosion points due to water entering through side pods and then having nowhere to go so sits about on top of the sills.

I'm not sure whether you could see the tops of the sills through the pods from the outside on a ph2 - that would be easier to be honest. Saw a stripped ph1 recently that had minor surface issues with the rear sills.
