YozzaSport Trophy flywheel and clutch???

Brett

New Member
Some of you may know Ive decided to go down the Sadev gearbox path as I have recently got the oportunity to get one. However I'm quite aware that other things will be needed to fit it ie driveshafts, stand alone ECU, gearbox mount and the compulsary clutch and flywheel. The legendary Mike T has gave me a good contact for the clutch and flywheel already but I was wondering if anyone knows anything of the Yozzasport kit. For curiosity more than anything and to keep my options open. Any help will be much appriciated

I don't think they have or can get anything......
I'll have details on driveshafts soon as mine are being made as we speak after much phoning around.
Most of this stuff now is custom build if you can't find original 2nd hand Trophy bits.

Yeah to be honest mate, I was expecting everything to be custom stuff. I don't even know where to begin looking for 2nd hand trophy parts. Same as the inlet plenumn, that will be one off parts. Im more worried about the clutch and flywheel as I've had variouse different types of driveshafts made in the past so have a couple of decent places to approach first off. Any info you could throw this way would be bloody great regarding them though fella. :approve:

Scott chased lots of people who all wanted lots of money.....found someone reasonable in the end and as soon as I have an invoice I'll give you details.
Trouble with getting stuff made is the cost and you usually need an original to copy...
Best of luck with this though....it's nice from my point of view to see people getting more extreme with what they're doing to these cars.........some might say we're ruining a classic though.

Having broken a Trophy shaft quite early on, we had a couple of pairs made up by R&D at Daventry. Not had a problem since.

Does
translate to strengthened components are for fairies? If so, I have graphic evidence of what happens when you use standard parts in modded motors

I think that's where mine ended up Mark...

Still waiting for MT to bite back at your comment.......

Daventry sounds good!! The car is currently in Floore which is a 5 minute drive from there and Im in Northampton so its on my doorstep lol. Ball park figure wise, how much are they asking for a pair of drive shafts? Once the 'box is fitted, I reckon i'll only be looking at around 265-275bhp with the inlet set up so I'm hoping the 'box will be nice and reliable.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who has gone down this route and the people who have are more than helpful. Cheers lads :approve:

Cool. I was expecting a fair ammount more than that but that price sounds bloody decent. Sounds like the most expensive part of the conversion will be the ecu and wiring.....which unfortunatly........I'm crap at!

The 'boxes are reliable with 300bhp BUT...read my earlier stuff about how bad mapping cost me 7 rebuilds at £1500 a pop before we got it right.

In the end we rented an airfield and paid the MoTeC boys to sort it 'in-car' Best guess just doesn't work. We still have rebuilds every 5 or 6 events, so 500-750 miles and they want looking at. Early sign of failure is a kind of false neutral, usually beween 1st & 2nd or 2nd & 3rd - we have often finished events with only the upper 3 gears.

Tim, did you see my plasticine rods from the turbo car? Scott stripped one of my Trophy engines to check the sizing and we're now awaiting two sets of Arrow rods to contain all of Mike's torque and we'll finally rebuild a Trophy at the same time.

Embarrased to say that D8 is still in the trailer since Rockingham and I've not even seen the turbo. Must get out more....

M

Yes Mark, I've seen the rods.....can't believe we were able to drive home with just a slight vibration......
I was having a look at your Trophy engine on Weds, Scott was telling me about the new rods....and the price!!
A pic of what is going on behind the scenes of the Turbo......not many standard parts left here.

So you reckon I'll be looking at under 1000 mile rebuilds??? :s I'll be using the car as a road toy/track car of a mild tune so was expecting it to be much more reliable than that. My Quaife and Jack Knight dog boxes lasted longer than that on my 250+bhp mini.

BTW - just to p**s on your chips - the £200 a piece is just for the shaft, you still need joints for both ends :(

I do have a mass of Trophy bits which might get you out of a hole..........but before anyone asks, no spare wheels :)

Mark's miles are all pretty full-on and he's running paddle shift which as he says took some configuring to get the best from. I believe although shifts are in the order of milliseconds the power is still fed back in incrementally which is a little kinder.
Mike clocked up 3-4000 road miles before he 'retired' and the box behaved very well. Regular rebuilds are not optional though.
Mike will tell you he has a supremely smooth driving style much akin to our current world F1 champion.

Thats handy to know mate. :approve: From the outset I'm going to budget a fair few grand aside for the odds and sods. If push come to shove, ill get a new pair of new OE driveshaft and have them remachined to fit the SADEV inputs. I can't see me snaping/twisting driveshafts in a sub 350bhp car.

With a gearbox as expensive as a Sadev onboard I can assure you my driving style will be very smooth too lmao ;)
Just for curiosity, is the stand alone management needed purely for flat changes? Reason being, I'm not too fussed if I have to lift to engage the next gear....I have done with every other car Ive owned :race:

I'd agree and only Mike can say how much grief he gave the 'box to last that long :) The turbo car is a bit of an oddity though as the power and torque are way over the design spec for that box - however, the power delivery is probably 'kinder' than a N/A car.

Fully approve of modding a car but I'm not sure what you are planning to achieve by doing the swap - it will last for ever if you toodle about but it wasn't designed for that and will still cost the best part of £10K to get a rough, industrial change and make a crap road car.

MikeT and I had a purpose, albeit very different, Tim is just plain mad. Just make sure that you are going in with your eyes open 'coz the V6 has nowhere near the engineering support that Mini/Escort/Vauxhall hybrid stuff has and we are consigned to one-off costs for everything.
