Yayyyy, the Megane aint got an engine oil leak!!

its got a gearbox oil leak instead...






although looking at it im 99% sure its the drainage plug thats the culprit...


so here is my questions

is the washer the same as the sump plug one? ( a copper compression one )

and how much oil does the box hold.... i have 3 litres of vauxhalls finest gear oil so hoping no more than that..

the drain plug washers are the same

usually take about 2.5 litres, if you fill them as your meant to (until it pours out the filler hole) the gearchange tends to be crap, drain it so its a bit lower than the filler and its fine.

also its more likely to leak from the gear selector rod seal or from the nearside driveshaft, either the gaiter at the shaft (shaft should have a light misting of oil on it) or the lower of the 3 gaiter retaining plate bolts has stripped (very common)

not easy as box has to come out and complete strip down.

new seal will be leaking from when its fitted anyway, its fighting against gravity
