Wont go into gear ?? ...

The car starts ok, but the gear stick wont go into any gear .. its like its jamming against something ?... also the clutch pedal does press down all the way to the floor and return back up although it does feel abit soft as if there is no resistance ....

Has the very cold weather jammed / frozen something ? ...... is the clutch gone or has the hydralics packed in ? ...

The car is a Ph3 ...

Nope, no noises Dan .... car started as normal and ticking over just fine, she just wont go into gear ..

I used the car last week and she was great, no signs of anything about to go wrong ...

odd, any way of getting ya bonnet up and getting someone to stomp on the pedal and have a gander at the slave to see if its moving - that would eliminate the hydraulics

Do the ph3's have a slave cylinder ? ..

yes it sits on the top of the bellhousing and pushes the clutch fork, if it moves in and out then the hydraulics are fine.

Ok, cheers Dan .. once i manage to get the bonnet up i'll have a look ...

How ironic the bonnet cable goes pop just as i really need in there .. lol

when you try and release the bonnet, make sure you get someone to apply some pressure to the bonnet where the catch is to take the tension out of the spring, that should make it easier to get the pliers on the cable to release it for repair!

What fault was it with yours Daz ?

Im assuming the clutch was renewed when the engine was replaced 37k ago ..

Spoke to Dave this afternoon and established that the clutch fork was moving back and forth a good 10mm when the clutch pedal was depressed ... so that seemed to be ok. I managed to get the car into gear now but the biting point comes in once the pedal begins to be released .. ie, right at the bottom and the pedal is very light when being pressed.

I left the car idling for a wee while to get some heat in her, then tried things again, it seems worse now, when i go to put the car into gear she is grinding and crunching ... Dave reckons a loss of pressure somewhere or an air leak .... ???

And oh, there seems to be a very faint whiff of something ... does'nt seem like burning but hard to say what it is ..... i must admit i thought i smelt it the last time i was out in her .. ??

In any other car i might not be so bothered, but with it being a ph3 and there fun clutch system im kinda concerned .. im not really sure where to begin tbh ????? .. if i take it to a garage is there anything he can do to fix the problem ?? ..

The engine was replaced 37k ago, so im assuming they replaced the clutch then .. but cant be sure tbh ...

Would a goosed clutch give them symtems ? ..

37k is very little milage for a clutch to fail, unless you been launching it everywhere!

I believe we were still on the original clutch in my original Red phase 1 which was on 80k.

Sounds more likely to be a hydraulics problem as dave said....thing is..why has it gone wrong is the question.

Then again its quite hard to locate a complete system these days.

I have a very bad feeling the famous Ph3 hydralics have had their day ... it was always my worst fear of owning this car tbh .... maybe look into trying to find a set of ph1 hydralics now ....

Dave does reckon its an engine out job no matter whats wrong with it

It wont be an engine out job if its the clutch hydraulics mate, but it will be if its the clutch. Sounds like the hydraulics though.
