Winter re-spec

Jon, thanks. Do let me know when you plan to come down to SRR about week before your are due and I will be there. Would you be stripping the Vee before this?

I know what the TTV flywheel should offer in terms or feel and performance, so just need to see how well it sits in a Clio V6, and what effects/sounds are transmitted into the cabin.

Don't worry I wont hold you responsible for the direction of #002 - it needs to maintain its OEM appearance at all costs, except perhaps for the ride height, seats and steering wheel, but drive a whole lot better :)

As regards the Phase 1 clutch, Scott confirmed last night that the TTV flywheel can only be used with a Phase 1 clutch, so that is fine as I was wanting to have a Phase 1 clutch installed anyway.

We're booked in at SRR on Thurs April 4th so feel free to swing by if you can. :)

It won't be stripped before then and won't really be stripped at all. I am getting rid of everything that I see as superfluous, but I still want it to look like a road car inside really.

Didn't realise it was a ph1 clutch only application. Does make sense to start with the better item I guess :approve:

Thanks. Done, I will be there - in my diary now [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Haven't really got a list as such, but the aim will be to get rid of the GT orientated items to (hopefully) move towards the superleggera end of the spectrum.

Remove sound proofing, stereo, CD changer, airbags, air con, and install thin carpets?

Pretty much. May even extend to doorcards, glass, window motors and rear wiper assembly/motor, but then it could be argued I'm moving more towards a track car.

Binning the OEM exhaust system and suspension has saved a very useful chunk already so don't want to go too overboard. A trip to a weigh station might prove quite interesting....!

Indeed it would be more like a track car, but loads more fun and feedback, but you may be hard pushed to do long journeys for meets etc.

Interesting re the OEM suspension - does it weigh that much? Didn't realise that. Roughly what would you say is the difference, say in percentage terms?

I think when it was discussed before people could see ways (drastic in some cases!) to get a vee to around 1150kg.

Not too sure I could get there but c1250kg shouldn't be too hard to achieve, which is about 85kg or so less than a standard ph1. With the power going up and the weight going down only good things can result 8)

I can double check as I have the box the BCs came in and OEM suspension at home, but I'd say at least 15kg weight saving if not closer to 20kg - the rear OEM suspension units especially are ridiculously heavy. Add that saving to the 25 odd kg I've saved by swapping the seats, the 2-3kg by swapping the steering wheel and the ??kg by swapping out the OEM exhaust system and I'm probably around about 50-60kg lighter than a standard ph1. Shouldn't be too hard to find another 20 or so kg.

Car won't fit on the weighing scales at home though so I can't be sure ;)

I always think about possible weight savings to be had on the Vee, usually whilst eating another packet of Quavers. I stopped eating Quavers and the car is measurably superior now, benefits include a less greasy steering wheel and carpets that no longer smell like a marathon runner's crotch

Correct. I always make sure I shave (everywhere - think Duncan Goodhew), I never carry passengers, the fuel light is always on, I never fill up the screen wash reservoir and am usually naked apart from a pair of jesus sandals to stop my feet hurting as I heel and toe.

Thanks. Would be interested in knowing the weight saving that can be achieved if you are able to get that info. I believe the Phase 2 had different dampers, but shouldn't be far off.

It's on the job list for me and my hammer when the car returns.

No probs. Hope the BC box has the weight on it! Sure it will. The ph1 items must be made of out volcano or something because I don't consider myself particularly weedy and I was struggling to lift the feckers.

So guess that your Vee will now need corner weighting as well as a full geo setup to maximise its potential?

Yep. Will need to be set up properly. Haven't got that far yet though. Needs the engine on song first, then it'll be properly set-up and then that's it until winter 2013!! Determined to get as much fun out of the car this summer as poss!! :approve: Very much making up for lost time 8)
