5 GT Turbo White smoke on gear change

Hi all,

the project pushes on but there’s a bit of a mysterious white smoking issue at the moment

white smoke is blowing out on gear change or when you let off the throttle and a tiny amount on tick over

was believed to be the turbo charger but after having the oil seals inspected it’s not thought to be that

compression test has been done and it’s all good across the 4 cylinders and head gasket is fine ?

the smoke is defineatly white as well,it’s bee suggested it’s the oil stem seals or valve guides but I would have though the compression would be done if it was that ?

many thoughts would be great

cheers

Anybody got a vacuum hose/ pipe work diagram there’s stuff disconnected in random places - first R5 so I’m not 100% familiar with where everything goes or where everything should be

I know the cars had quite a bit of work and tuning but I don’t get why some of this stuff would be disconnected

Looks like its been chucked together tbh.

Run vac pipe for fuel pressure and boost gauge on dash to the drivers side port on carb top. Loop the passenger side carb top ports. Run actuator pipe from middle of carb, fit it on the front port of the actuator and leave the rear port open to atmosphere.

The top black pipe going to carb on the left hand side what is that black pipe heading off to ?

mines got nothing connected there so can’t even see what that’s supposed to plug into

Right ok that’s so weird there’s nothing attached there - there’s a multitude of running issues but that can’t be helping anything am I correct in assuming the fuel pressure regulator should be somewhere down in the engine bay towards the front drivers side wing ?

Probs a stupid question but if somebody was doing some hatchet mods would there be any reason to not have it connected to the fuel pressure regulator - for instance to try and richen the fuel mixture on the cheap ?

the cars running really rich on top of the white smoke issues I’m trying to sort out at the moment

No, not having it connected would make it run lean when accelerating (quick way to pop a gasket or crack a liner) The fueling is done via jet sizes and an idle mixture screw at idle. What makes you say its running rich? old carb cars stink in comparison to modern stuff.

Might explain why I suspect the head gasket has gone on it - bizarre to think it’s not connected at all haven’t been under the bonnet in a few days so will need to check if the units even there !!

running rich smells very rich plus the exhaust tip has thick black soot on it

It had the carbs rebuilt before I got it I reckon they forgot to hook it back up or removed it for some reason then the previous owner drove it home 30 miles and popped the head gasket in it because it was running too lean

I’ve located the fuel pressure regulator it is connected but it’s connected to the right hand side of the black top hose into the carb

shouldn’t I be connected to the left ? And both of the right hand side points go into the turbo ?

as brigsy said previously id pull it all off and start again. If you are looking for it to be original we can guide you as to how it goes or do it how most do and pipe it as he suggested.
