im geting a high pitched whining noise from the rear as i acelerate it gets faster any ideas what this woulkd be? wheel bearing? and also is the wheel bearing on the vee at the rear same as a normal clio? the hub is the same as the front hub on non vee isnt it?

IMHO the Vee gearboxes do tend to whine a bit but I wouldn't say high pitched or really noticeable - on mine anyway ... Maybe part of the reason you can hear more of the these types of noises and clunks too is the engine and box are right behind you ...

[In classic panto style] Oh no it's not ... Oh yes it is ...

Other opinions would be useful too ...

try turning off the a/c... then see if it still makes the whine, usually also happens when the car is cold

itsonly just started doin it so its not any of them. its gets faster and slower with the speed of the car. my uncle who owns a garage seems to think it is a wheel bearing but just wondered if anyone off here had a similar expereience

Yep, mine makes that kind of whine as well - it's not a bad whine, more of a "hear things working" kind of whine

mine has also just developed a 'whine noise' but i seem to feel its something to do with the gear box. as i accelerate and deccelerate it increases and decreases and particulary in 2nd, 3rd even a little in forth a whirring type noise occurs too.

Incidentally this has just began to happen within the last week or two just after ive got it back from renault for having my belts, pulleys and tensioners replaced under warranty for making 'clackety' noises when cold.

Wonder ifs its the same thing?

Think it could be something perhaps tighented too much?

right left my car at the dealers this morning regarding my whine and just got the phone call...

NEW GEAR BOX needed! [smilie=icon_eek.gif] only 24,000ish miles on it

Thankfully im still under warranty and they will have the new box in two days and ready for me on monday evening.

Just out of curiousity anyone know the price on a new gear box? id hate to have to pay out for one out of warranty

£1700! then labour and fitting [smilie=icon_eek.gif] could be very costly

close shave for me then...my warranty is up in august, lol
