Wheel Stud and Nut Conversion...

I'm going to convert the front and rear hubs to studs and nuts instead of wheel bolts.

I know the thread of the studs needs to be M14x1.5 I also know they need to be around 60mm in length and I want studs that are pressed in from the rear of the hub. I do not want the screw in conversion kits.

My dilemma is trying to find a stud that has a a shallow enough head on the back that will clear the six front wheel bearing bolts.
Renault ran the group N cars like this but I've had no luck in getting the same studs they used as the parts seem to be no longer available.

Has anyone done the conversion already that can recommend somewhere that sells the correct studs?

If not I'll have to email/ ring round several suppliers to see what they have.

Saves time and makes life easier. I converted the 5 but that has a different wheelbearing/hub arrangement and is M12x1.5 so unfortunately I can't use the same parts for the 21

eh? how many times do you change your wheels lol? fitting europacup single nut hubs would be quicker but nuts OR bolts would need the same tools and time, only difference is the odd second it takes to line the holes up.

Get bolts.

Screw in from back.

Grind heads down until reassembled hub doesnt catch. (remember its threaded in so the heads aren't as important)

once you've give them a grind you may want to tack a weld or 2 on them too, just to be on the safe side.

To be fair, I probably would too, but thinking about it you dont weld your wheelnuts in do you..... :happy:

well i thought that, but if the nut becomes tight it may unwind the bolt back out and catch on the hub

Lewis, Im sure Grayson do them. They even offer anodised nuts to make it look super sexy

Yeh i've trawled through a bit of graysons web catalogue but it doesnt list all the dimensions I need to know.

Ill try and speak to a supplier for them and see if they can help.

Not sure you can get the ones with the rivet heads and splined shank off the shelf. I would go for the above and loctite them in.

Anodised? That implies theyre made of ally- not sure i'd want soft ally wheelnuts!

Screw in ones are fine - I've got them on my Clio (you all know the abuse that gets), had them on my Bora then put them on my TT.

I've also got Alloy nuts on my Clio (stupidly light) and steel ones on my TT.

Does the alloy on the nut not wear Lee? I'd be worried about stripping the threads out....

Forget alloy nuts if you want to go hillclimbing etc the MSA have banned them.

Also the cost of them is silly. I'll stick to open ended steel nuts.
