Wheel alignment question

Mark

Well-Known Member
I had a 4 wheel alignmnet today and didn't get a chance to study the results properly until i came away. I'm satisfied with the overall result as the fixed settings were within the recommended tolerances.

Just a question on the toe angles as these are the only ones that can be adjusted. Is the value shown in our manual meant to represent the total sum of the angles of the two wheels ie, my results after adjustment were.............

front
recommended value
(for two wheels )toe in 0degrees 30' +/-10' 1 turn=30'( 3mm) ( as worded in the workshop manual)

after front left 1.4mm
after front right 1.4mm
total 2.8mm

rear recommended value (for 2 wheels) toe in + 0degrees 45' +/-10' 1 turn =1 degree (6mm) ( as worded in the workshop manual)

after rear left 2.3mm
after rear right 2.3mm
total 4.6mm

i'm assuming if the value was for each wheel it would look a bit weird and impossible handling? Has any one else have their last results to hand?

Are all your results positive toe or neg toe, my own opinion on my ph 2 was neg toe (out) on the rear slightly, with positive toe (in) on the front, it felt less nervous like this but i dont have the exact figures to hand now. i did find there was a little adjustment of the other angles by slackening the stub top mounts and using a bit of force, not much though.

My results have been written as positive values, i issued the guys doing the job with these actual papers, unless you trust these guys you can neve rbe sure they have the right information. They are written as positive, as per section 7 (14/15)

Thanks

what does it feel like on the road, mine still gets a little nervous at high speed (120 +) but overall feels well planted.

Is that kmph? [smilie=icon_eek.gif] .

Not had to go that fast, but it was twitchy at the start of 70mph. It now feels tighter and i have more confidence in the car.

I would recommend anyone to get thier alignment checked, if its not been done recently. With the state of our roads, speed bumps etc, it doesn't take much to knock it out of alignment.Typical costs are circa £50.

Interesting Spike....Mine is Mk1 but I found toe out on the rear was lethal. Accelerate hard and lift off and it would dance all over the place. I had toe in rear, toe out front, the opposite to you...
