What is this part?

Hi. I found this part dangling when I looked under the steering wheel today. I’m not quite sure where it is supposed to fit.

This was the part number I found on it 431512, but as far as I can see my breaking lights work fine.

There is a hole above the purple part that is connected to the break pedal.
But I’m not sure if it is supposed to be in that hole? I tried to press it but it looks like nothing happens.

Looks like the brake or clutch pedal switch to me. Brake switch activates brake lights and disengange cruise (which Phase 1 doesn’t have).

To put that switch in place, press the pedal slightly then insert the switch in then twist clockwise 90 degree. It has a bayonet mount.

Looking at your photos again on desktop computer with much bigger screen, it looks like the clutch switch but nowhere to mount it. It could be the wiring loom is already in Phase 2 configuration but used in Phase 1 car. My Phase 2 has blue connector though for the clutch switch.

I note this car currently in Norway was originally supplied to Italy. Might have some differences for various countries?

A picture of a PH2 pedal box might be useful

ed_harland could you upload a picture from your car?

James originally sold to Italy. Then shipped to Japan and then it ended up in Norway.

The brake switch has adjustable plunger. It has a ratchet mechanism so you can adjust the plunger protrusion (5 position if I remember correctly). Too short protrusion and your brake lights will be on all the time. Too long the brake lights won't come on until you brake very hard.

To adjust, pull the plunger out (you'll notice it clicks into position). Once pulled out to the maximum protrusion, you can push it all the way in again.

I never knew that, my brake lights don't work unless the engine is running (as the servo increases the pedal travel) which has caught out a few mot testers over the years.

Guessing this car has different loom fitted? would have thought they might have removed the unused switch and tied the plug up out of the way mind.
