where to begin who knows
The car is a bog standard Volvo 340 1.4 4 speed manual
The plan is to drop a renault 19 16v engine in and have some serious fun on the roads and track.
1x 16v engine sourced in devonshire - scary place....

Now it hasnt been touched since bringing it home as i have had little time, but im waiting on my haynes manual so i can figure out how the feck to strip all the crap of it. ive never seen so many bolts on a bloody engine!
Also ive been told it was working when it was removed but who knows. Right now i'm waiting on sourcing volvo parts that are needed to fit the engine in.

Well now all my guages are here
2x oil pressure
1x oil temp
1x volts
1x water temp

and the rev counter has been in the car for a while now.
this sunday should see the start of my ap piller pod build if i can dig out some pipe that fits so i can fibreglass it all in and spray it..
well the pillar pod is on hold, ive got the pipe, just not the weather at the moment to work outside on it well enough

today I've managed to remove the loom, starter, most pipes bolt on and engine mount to check, yesterday alternator and power steering.
so its slowly getting places, but it seems now my problems lie with certain engine components, i was told the engine was dry stored, yet it seems to have plenty of oil in it, via checking the dipstick, so i may have buggered the internalsd up when it rolled on to my sisters legs a few weeks agao now. also found water in all the spark plug wells. which has now gone through in to the cylinders.
in relaity i want to keep it as it is and not strip it down more than i have to as i cant be fecked to replace head gasket and cambelt yet. time n cost more than anything.
so heres some pictures.
heres how im working on the engine, Thanks to william( greenvan ) for long term let of his engine crane

all the bits currently removed that barrow did house the engine when i got it, but its now full with bits n bobs of off the engine

The loom

nice close up

And heres the serious earth lead i will be using, i sourced this back in my audio days thanks to my old man. Its an earth lead used in ambulances and it s about £20 to buy normally in the shops. but i got it way cheaper..
and it will now be either my battery to engine earth, or engine to chassis, tis about a foot and a half almost of bare 2AWG

10-april.
UPDATE
Well the last couple of days have been busy.
Head seperated from the block, amongst other stuff.
So problems:
Exhaust rusted and siezed solid to the aluminum head resulted in me at my local garage playing hail marys with the oxy actelyne torch heating them up and cracking them of, had to resort to melting one of the bolts as we could not even get a spanner to move the rounded item. Then on removal we manage to snap one stud clean of and also broke one of the down pipe mounting bolts, this requires a new manifold and the stud to be removed from the head. I think in the long term i will replace them with bolts instead of nuts + studs.
Sump has finaly been removed some one over torqued the torx bolts which is no wonder i couldnt remove it at home.
Heads going of to be skimed tomorrow. have to strip the cams of it which i didnt want to do at all but needs must.
Also finaly got my parts back from shot blasting and powder coat.
Unfortunately he forgot one part which we promptly found at the back of the workshop, and he will have ready for tomorrow.
So the only pics from today are the following( expect more tomorrow when i should start bolting it all back together on my engine stand
)

enjoy
( I know i will when its finished

That leaves you with a surprising amount of room really(heater box has been removed)

stick the 16v block ont he stand and strip the crap

Find hidden treasures along the way

2 bolts rusted inside the water pipe way at the back of the water pump! who knows who placed them there.
Test the powdercoated parts

volvo now looks like this:

ive painted the rocker cover, exhaust, throttle cable brackets, ICV bracket, and loads of other parts. my orange vaccum hose has just arrived its not as good as i hoped so i might order in some from the hong of kong.
Mot's booked for the 15th of this month on the basis of the exhaust being sorted.
so some pictures.
the current state of play in the shed/workshop

Head was sent away to be refurbished.

and some recent:
wires tucked away on the loom.

exhaust side:

mot is booked for the 15th of this month.. on the exception of her having an exhaust.. so i have a lot of work to be done that way. so if there's some one on here with a welder and a pipe bender and some spare time and pipe please shout.

Right well its been a bloody long time!
That mot never happened as she decided to pack up on me ( alternator failure)
now lots of problems recently including high reving etc, so new lambda sensor and that didnt cure it well found out it was all because i didnt have the icv plumbed in to the air filter like it should be. well alot of credit on the phone to jay solved that and the idle instantly changed! then cue it conking out! LOL.
Now ive spent most of today (20/12/0
plumbing vaccum pipes properly and changing batterys.
and now she runs

And now thats how she stands!
Enjoy.
