No.149 sailed through its MOT today with no advisories, went to collect it from the garage and it wouldn't start :ihatpcs: :ihatpcs: :ihatpcs: Just a loud click, relatively new bosch battery and all electrics working fine, had to bump start. I'm certain it's the starter motor because the last few times I started the car I noticed it sounded a bit more laboured than usual when starting, almost like it was wheezing itself into life, oh well at least it didn't happen at a busy petrol station!

I wish I changed the starter motor when I had the cambelt done recently. :violin:

RPD sell starter motors for £170....seems reasonable, but how intrusive is the job? It seems this is becoming a common fault as the cars get older but I cant find any info on the forum about how easy it is to rectify, any advice would be appreciated. [smilie=thanks.gif]

Not a nice job when engine in have to drop manifold off

I agree, that's why I will be handing a print out of the guide to someone who knows what they are doing.

It was the starter motor as suspected, all sorted now. Had a tremendous drive home from the garage on new Michelin supersports. :race:

They look quite an impressive outfit. You would recommend them then?

Yes I would Iain, people travel from South of the border to use this place so I'm quite lucky it's only about 40 miles away.

I still intend using Rentec in Edinburgh for servicing but for everything else I'll go to Dreadnought, it's great to look around the other cars there too, currently a few TVR's including a Sagaris and a stunning ultra rare classic Ferrari driven by the Garage owner.
