Vauxhall Astra 2.0 diesel

Am due to collect my Astra today, a 64 reg, registered in January 2015, it’s the SRI model, 2.0 diesel with 165ps... having only covered just 22,500 I paid £7,250 from a main dealer (advertised at £8,995), the bodywork is very decent? However showing some swirls, my plan is to polish and wax it on my next few days off work.

Also have purchased a DTUK tuning box (plenty of insignia/Astra people swear by them and many covered over 100,000 miles... should bump me upto 210ps with 460lb of torque...

Also purchased some headlight bulb upgrades as I remember how crap my originals were on my last insignia.

Looking forward to a different daily, the mini has been great, but a cheaper car is needed, plus I won’t care about the miles building up on the Astra.

Nothing fun has arrived for the Astra, had it a few weeks, covered 600 miles... first impressions... nowhere near as solid as the mini, don’t handle aswell.... but it is bigger and abit more powerful.... does what I got it for.

A quick clean today, applied 1st of gyeon fabric coat to my new mats (need a 2nd coat before fitting them into the Astra).

Paintwork needs a good machine polish, plenty of swirls, but no major scratches... undecided what coating to use wax or ceramic coating of some sort.

The alloys have been.repainted at some point, pretty poorly done... no sign of clean coat (dill and rough paint work), but I clean them anyway and applied some wheel wax... for some sparkle onto the wheels again.

Decided to try my hand at tinting windows.... really not that easy... but decided to not waste to much time and just done the side where George sits... will do the rest when I have more time.

Also removed the rear 2.0 CDTI badge... not a fan of badge, may remove the Astra badge aswell (to much dirt hides between the letters).

A very quick panel wash, no time for the wheels to be done... it comes up well, I plan on machine polishing it next week, followed up with some wax.

Never done a tint. What makes it difficult?

It’s not difficult as such, just a lot of faff... the film it self is very each to crease, have to cut to size, heat shrink it.. lay the film on the glass with no creases, squeeze all the water out... not very hard to do... but very easy to mess it up.

Today I had a few hours spare child free,
Had a quick rinse, Clayed with a hand mitt, wheel cleaned, washed, rinsed, dried, quick once over with a black pad/meguairs 205 combo, couldn’t find my normal wax so used bouncers wax (not ideal for a dark coloured car.), tyres and engine bay dressed, quick hoover inside and job done... not bad for 3 hours work.

It’s hard to photo the metallic, but it certainly does fleck.
