HI MY NAME IS CHRIS I OWN A 1995 CLIO 1.8 16V HAVE HAD THE CAR ABOUT 2 YEARS BUT UNFORTUNATELY OF THAT TIME HAVE ONLY HAD THE PLEASURE OF DRIVING IT FOR AROUND 3 WEEKS. WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS THE CLUTCH BUT THAT WAS NOTHING I THOUGHT ESPECIALLY AFTER I TEST DROVE IT, I WAS IN SHOCK SHE WAS PULLING 110MPH IN 3RD GEAR I HAD TO HAVE THIS BABY!
THE OWNER AT THE TIME ASSURED ME THAT IT JUST NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. IT WAS NOT UNTILL A WEEK LATER AND LESS THAN 100 MILES THAT SHE LOST DRIVE COMPLETELY WHICH I WAS KIND OF EXPECTING I TOOK IT 2 A LOCAL GARAGE AND WAS TOLD THAT NOT ONLY WAS THE CLUTCH RUINED BUT SO WAS THE GEARBOX AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST £1200 TO REPAIR WHICH INCLUDED REBUILDING THE BOX NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS DEVASTATED!! ESPECIALLY AS I STILL HAD NOT PAID IN FULL FOR THE CAR I HAD NO CHOICE BUT 2 LEAVE IT SIT AROUND UNTILL I COULD 2 GET THE MONEY TOGETHER.
7 MONTHS LATER AND A LITTLE LEGAL HELP I MANAGED 2 GET THE PREVIOUS OWNER 2 FORGET HIS DEMANDS OF ME PAYING THE FULL AMOUNT FOR THE CAR AND I STARTED MY HUNT FOR A NEW GEARBOX I FOUND A GOOD DEAL ON A RECONDITIONED BOX WITH WARRANTY THEN THE DAY I WAS GOING TO ORDER IT A GOOD MATE TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW OF A ROTTING R19 16V WHICH WAS ABOUT 2 BE SCRAPPED AND I COULD TAKE THE BOX OFF IT OF COURSE I JUMPED AT THE CHANCE, THE ONLY PROBLEM BEING THAT I HAD TO DO IT STRAIGHT AWAY, SO WITH LIMITED TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE AND IN FREEZING TEMPRATURES AND TORRENTIAL RAIN I SET TO WORK, AFTER BEING ON MY BACK IN 4 INCHES OF WATER FOR ALMOST 4 HOURS I HAD A NEW GEARBOX ASWELL AS ANYTHING ELSE I COULD STRIP OUT OF IT (HAPPY DAYS)

I WAS JUST HAPPY THAT MY BABY WAS BACK I WAS LOVING IT UNTILL 2 WEEKS LATER WEN I LOST DRIVE ONCE AGAIN!! ASSUMING IT WAS THE BOX ONCE AGAIN I PUT IT IN THE GARDEN AND LEFT IT START ROTTING REFUSING TO SELL IT TO ALL WHO OFFERED ME CASH UNTILL NOW.
I LOST MY JOB AND WAS BORED SO STARTED STRIPPING THE BOX OUT MYSELF WITH A LITTLE HELP ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A SIMPLE SNAPPED SHIM WHICH ONLY COST £8 FROM LOCAL DEALER.
AT PRESENT THE BOX IS BACK IN AND DRIVE HAS BEEN RESTORED BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDERBODY SEALED AND CAR IS ALMOST READY FOR MOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHICH SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE LINKAGE INSIDE THE CAR (ANY ADVICE ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED) BUT ALL IN ALL REALLY EXITED ABOUT GETTING MY BABY BACK ON THE ROAD JUST HOPE I HAVE MORE LUCK THIS TIME ROUND 3RD TIME LUCKY..
I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE REASON THE SHIM HAD GONE IS BECAUSE THE BACK END HAD BEEN LOWERED AND THE FRONT END LEFT STANDARD WHICH IS NOT HEALTHY SO HAVE HAD TO RAISE THE BACK END UP RATHER THAN LOWER THE FRONT DUE TO THE INTRODUCTION OF STUPID SPEED HUMPS IN MY LOCAL AREA BUT WAT CAN U DO?
NEW PLUGS AND LEADS TOMMORROW, OIL FILTER AND OIL CHANGE, ON ORDER ARE POLISHED ROCKER COVER, BACK BOX, AND BACK SHOCKS CANNOT WAIT. YIPEEEEE.:lol:
