Valeo Phase 1 Starter Motor

Hi Guys,

I'm in need of a little advise if anyone can advise me on some points regarding a starter motor failure on my phase one,

I'm aware that the original starter on both the phase one and phase two were both Valeo units which have a problem with the armature housing magnets de-bonding due to heat and I know a few members with Phase two's have sourced alternative starters with screwed in secured magnets rather than bonded ones to rectify the problem,

I have both the part numbers for the PH1 and PH2 Valeo units and I can source a better cross referenced part number for a Bosch unit for a PH2 but not a PH1.....

Has anybody fitted a PH2 starter to their PH1 at all which you could tell me about?

I have also asked Paul @ RPD and he has confirmed they are two different part numbers for each Model of Vee and he believes they would be different, I've dug around some more on this and the only thing I can find different between both the original Starter is the part number and a slight increase in KW power output, I personally don't think this will be an issue as the starter would just wind up a little quicker? Am I correct?

There is also a hell of alot of conflicting info out there regarding the original Valeo part numbers - Ph1 is - D6RA70 and the PH2 is - D6RA107, I've looked on numerous sites and most of them cross reference the PH1 part number back to the PH2 part number.... so am I right in thinking they are in fact very very similar if not the same unit really? If this is the case would you guys think it's a safe assumption I could just reference the PH2 Valeo part number to a better built Bosch unit which has the better screwed magnets and fit that one instead and any future issues with starter problems will be sorted?

I just don't want to fit another bonded Valeo unit which will fail on me again.... I'd like to fit once and be sure its a quality but correct item to do the job better than the original,

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

Hi Ashy,

Did you get anywhere with this ?
It would appear mine has now gone for a burton, was a bit lazy last time I started it but getting nothing from it at all now... just a click and nothing else, battery all checked out, have even tried others that are newer and fully charged etc [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

When you look on Renault Parts for your stater motor it gives just one option.

Valeo D6RA107 Exchange Unit 7711134529 £210.42 GBP

Looking up a Phase 2 it gives Type D7R17
