v6clio.net The Future

Many of you know that we have been hunting high and low to find a team with enough knowledge to take over the club since I retired last year.

We were unable to find anyone suitable within the club to step in and take over.

Quite some time ago we did get a lovely offer to move as much as possible over to our good friends at https://turborenault.co.uk/ but I was still trying hard to keep things going as they are. That is no longer possible now so we have decided to accept their help.

andybond and our very own "dave the geek" are working very hard to ensure that when we do move house, it will all go as smoothly as possible.

I'm sure Andy will do his best to answer any questions you may have about our new home.

I will of course be in regular contact with the new team. ;)

I realise this may come as a surprise to some of you but this site is too valuable a resource to let swim off into the internet ether, hence our standing offer to support that James has now accepted (as the good egg he is!).

We can host this forum as a complete archive that can be accessed, plus we have the current forum you are all most welcome to use with a good amount of active users. The site is free to use, to all comers with no membership fees. We do not have any adverts or spam, sponsorships or paid promotions to shove in your face. We have the latest forum tech, its really rather good. Its a great community, we are very proud of it. Please do check the events and join in where you can.

andybond is working on the import strategy, we have built a car register to port across the register here too.

TurboRenault.co.uk - also home to clio16valver, Retro-Renault, R21 Turbo Owners Club Forum, Renault 5 Gordini forum, R5 Turbo archive, and others.

To add to what @DaveL485 said we are enthusiasts and not capitalists.

We put together a forum 12+ years ago and grew from a founding 5 members to the thriving site it is now.

Our goal is to provide a reliable , knowledgable resource for owners and we don’t like to lose data from sites hence we offer to help out other forum owners.

It’s not the end of v6clio , it’s the beginning of a new chapter.

Hopefully you will be importing the register with the registrar, too much knowledge in both to let one go without the other :approve:

Our aim is to ensure a proper "Clio v6" register will be available somewhere on the internet, and no data is lost.

I don't know the first thing about running a forum but sad to hear this but it sounds like a sensible move. I wouldn't have my V6 if it wasn't for this forum. It will be missed.

I still have the big v6clio.net sticker in my parents attic on the window which was my old bedroom  vintage now.

Hats off to everyone that has kept it going.

Yes, this is built and ready to move over the register info - we have expanded it to allow for all models so we can all use it but its filterable by car like so...

Obviously Duncan is most welcome to contribute and participate in any way he would like to (as is anyone else!)

It'll still be there, just as a searchable archive rather than a standalone site, you guys can then post on the main forums with everyone else. One big happy family etc etc.

Good people of v6clio.net ;

I have created a read/write area here : https://turborenault.co.uk/forums/clio- ... -chat.660/ for you.

The plan is as follows :

1) Migrate the v6 register to TurboRenault
2) Migrate the v6 trophy information to TurboRenault - IN PROGRESS thanks to @Duncan assistance
3) Make v6clio.net read only - COMPLETE
4) Migrate the boards across - COMPLETE
5) Double check everything is moved across
6) Change the DNS so that v6clio.net points to TurboRenault.co.uk servers.

I will be moving your account , posts , likes , pictures, messages across. If you exist on TurboRenault you will merge with your TurboRenault profile. This part is in testing phase with my dev server.

My aim is to move 100% of data. I might need your help with some of that!

This seems like a decent plan. Preserving the archive is the key.

Maybe TurboRenault needs to be renamed for the onboarded NA stuff?

TurboRenault(and NARenault).co.uk?

This website proved very useful to acquire and maintain my v6 while I was using it regularly.

It make sense to archive and close down the forums as it's been quieter year after year. I suspect this is due to many UK cars being exported abroad and the fact that it's becoming more rare (valuable), and people don't drive it that much any more (including myself).

Thanks to everyone who made it possible. :salut:

Just to keep you all in the loop regarding this. I have met some challenges so far moving data across. I am doing an offline experimental port first to check everything is working as expected. So far I have working

 • Forum moving from v6clio host to my development box incorporating TurboRenault site

Rewritten all phpbb gallery image URL to custom URL so I can scrape them and move them cleanly to TurboRenault server

To do :

 • The v6 register.

Ill work on some SQL to inject this into our register.

 • The v6 trophy register

Duncan and myself have had some useful early engagement chats about this. We will see what we can do with it
