V6 YAY is being "raffled"

Like Kett, i’ve owned v6 for over 14yrs and apart from service items only had to replace washer motor and starter motor.
I wouldn’t get to wrapoed up on 5yr cambelt change, if the car is looked after and not abused, especially from cold, i think a few of us are taking it to 6 or 7 yrs. I have original cambelt and looks brand new. Obviously its your risk.
I would make sure and main stealer has provable experience of v6, but would prefer a specialist.
Keep the car, enjoy it until you really can’t afford it, even then i’d keep it stored until you could.

Re Dealers.

When I first bought mine I needed a new remote locking jobbie which meant it had to go in for coding.

Looked into the workshop through the window by the MOT bit and it was hard to see the car with all the people nosing around it. A lady from the office came and asked if it was mine as she'd been there for 12 years and had never seen one.

Maybe not the best place to take them.

Apart from odd the infamous coils frustration; my only critical event in 14 years of Ph2 ownership has been starter motor failure.
Obviously avoid ‘old tyres’ as Vees have a certain reputation...

Same for me, probably 3 or 4 coils approx £30 each and starter motor, not bad in 15 years and 40,000 miles.
Did my cambelt at 7 years (26,000 miles) just to be on the safe side, wondered why I bothered all in excellent condition !

Forget the above ! The cam belt can wait, the vee is so reliable and it's cost you nothing. Sort out the immediate problems, keep it outside and just use the bloody thing till it drops :race:
It will always have value even as scrap [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
In the book its 5 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first, but much like a few others here i'm at 5 years now but under 10,000 miles since it was changed. I've had a nosey at it and based on that and a bit of experience with RS stuff i'm more than happy to leave it to 7.5 years with such mileage. The only reason I would change it any sooner is if I were to sell it, because it would affect value quite considerably.

Note that aux belt is 3 years and 36,000 I think, and this often gets missed against the cambelt interval, but its an easy belt to inspect and should be obvious when it shows signs of age or wear.

Thanks for all the advice guys its made me feel a lot better I can possibly leave it until 7.5 years. I'll keep an eye on the aux belt too.

I've been a bit worried so havent driven it for a couple of nights but think I'll take it for a run out later :race:

I'll do whatever I can to keep the car I'm absolutely loving everything about it and would break my heart to let it go.

Its also nice to know these cars dont usually have much go wrong apart from normal parts.

Its also nice I've found this forum which is full of information I'm still catching up on and you're all a friendly, helpful bunch.

Would love to still have the car next summer and get to some meetups / shows and hopefully meet a few from here and their machines.

Thanks again guys much appreciated :salut:
