V6 Remap

Missing Link

New Member
I do remapping as part of my business and have been talking to my tuner to try and get a group buy, Wondered how many would be interested.

The remap would release 15 more BHP and around 20 NM more torque, Not massive gains ( Not a turbo'd car ) but considering what an expensive exhaust and air box would cost ( plus fitting ) it's not a bad jump for less outlay.

These cannot be done from the OBD socket, so we would need to remove the ECU (Easy enough ) and post it away to be done on the bench.

Anybody interested ?

We can maybe get a good deal for about 10 units.

MK1 or 2's?

can be done with no risk to the stock components ?...gear box, engine etc etc

if so, i would be interested....

Whislt there are built in manufacturer tolerances to stock parts I don't think any tuner would give a guarantee without specifically upgrading those components. Read into that whazt you will I guess.

Personally, think the gains are a little optimistic on a stock car. Unless they are based on previous remaps done?

Both fella, Like all remaps Extra power is being released, As long as your vehicle is is good condition then it will have no adverse affects. (and a slight fuel saving's )

The guy's i use actually insurance backs his software, There are loads of guy's doing generic maps or just changing a couple of digits and calling it a remap !!!

This is your own map but modified, This will keep all the original software and hardware number that were original to your car.

I'll check but a copy would be kept of the original map to revert back to if necessary. ( it does with my OBD gear )

15Bhp is a bold claim Sean. I fear you'll need to "prove it"

I had mine mapped a couple of years ago, it didn't give me anymore power, but did smooth the delivery of the power curve. It now seems to be running a touch rich. I would be interested in having you take a look, but taking ECU's etc out is a pain in the tits; plus then how can you live map to each individaul motor and mods?!

Good point, Surely this type of remap would differ with a standard car compared to one say with a piperX and a QS exhaust ???

Guy's, All good points, All my current work has been on Turbos and you can really feel difference. Everybody has so far been very happy.

I can totally understand the need to see what you will be getting ( i would ) And i'll try get a graph or more info.......

I'll probably get mine done and could maybe do a comparison, But i don't really drive it much just now to get an honest before & after comparison. (Would anybody else like to be the guinea pig and give an honest review)

If fact i could get a before and after on the local rolling road

Even the quoted 15 Bhp would not give us the OMG factor, but a gain is a gain.

Correct me if i'm wrong ..........But is the ECU not just tucked behind the carpet in the boot.......... I typed before i looked. :s

I think you're right Sean....It is there.

Whats the rational for doing it on the bench though?

Again a good point fella, I'm guessing i could get a quote of around the £200 mark, I have no idea what a custom mapping session would be but for sure easily double that.

This map is just releasing the restrictions that the manufacturers but on the engine to build in a bit of reliability, I wont kid you on that it's a full out race tune item we'll be getting.

The Eprom needs to be programed out of circuit I'm told Ali.

It's opened up and placed in a cradle, probes are connected directly to the chip and it's re-written.

I have the OBD stuff , but even new cars are coming with anti re-writing software so the same method is still having to be applied to get round it.

I find it all fascinating...........

How does it come you have to remove the EPROM to rewrite it but you can restore the original software by OBD? Why can't you then instead of restoring the original software take one with a modified map? Am I guessing wrong it's soldered on the PCB? So will you resolder it or put it on kind of a socket?

Basically I'm interested but not until I have some more infos...

Let me try and get a pic, It will explain it a bit better....... The probe's just touch the soldered joints, Hence the cradle and multi probe set up

The old school way was to unsolder it ,But far too tricky with Modern Micro PCB'S.[album]6817[/album]
