V6 lunacy to V12 total lunacy.

Well, things are moving very rapidly with the house sale!

Heard from the Estate Agent and the buyers solicitors told them the buyer has mortgage approval, searches have been paid for and they have been informed they should be complete by the end of the first week in May. They told me completion shouldn't be too long after that.

Now I'm the least religious bloke you could wish to meet yet with probate being granted within 3 weeks as opposed to the expected 10 - 12 weeks, the house selling within 3 days and conveyancing seemingly getting a move on it's as though someone upstairs is pulling strings

So, to the important stuff....called AM Newcastle and spoke the the Sales Manager. Had a few questions for him re brake pads etc (£800 + per axle) and he said they'd have been checked prior to putting a Timeless Warranty on the car, over 49% worn and they have to change them. He listed a couple of jobs done to enable it to be given the Warranty. He suggested putting a 10% deposit subject to viewing the car and told him I didn't have the cahoonies to do that in anything went belly up with the house sale and I lost my deposit. Apparently that won't happen as a 10% deposit holds the car for a month and if things don't go to plan is refundable and he's happy to put that in writing.

Just paid a £1000 over the phone and will be on my way to Newcastle to view and test drive the car on Tuesday. If all good I'll pay them the balance of the deposit and then spend the next month with fingers crossed, although if need the deposit can be rolled over if the know the buyer is serious.

Let's just say that excited doesn't anywhere near cover it!

Keeping in mind the car will be used for UK and European road trips as opposed to being a garage queen, the fact that it has 38000 miles isn't an issue. If I hung out for a low mileage one with lightweight wheels, lightweight seats and an alcantara steering wheel I'd only end up putting more miles on it,

This is the car and they've sent me a walk around video :approve:

Stunning cars, proportionately perfect from every single angle. The V8 is superb but this is going to be exceptional!

And better still, it's a Geordie!

Looking forward to the mods you will put on it !!

I daresay they'll only be one, replacing the secondary cats which is highly recommended. AM actually sell 2 shortish straight pipes from Quicksilver for the replacement and it doesn't affect the Timeless warranty.....and charge just over £800 for them! Found someone selling a pair that were on for 1000 miles then taken off when he p/exed the car so, if the car doesn't have them on I'll buy his for £375.

Not sure I could do much else with it :approve:

Do these still suffer with primary cat failure ? I was looking at a very cheap one years ago that needed a rebuild due to scored bores from cat failure .

Cases have been known but they're quite rare by all accounts.

It can happen if a misfire isn't spotted (easily missed apparently on a V12) and the unburnt fuel sits on the face of the cat internals and, as Bamford Rose put it, nibbles away at the face of the cat. As on any car regular health checks would be a good idea and they would pick up any cat issues before any major problem occured.

Of course there is also the option of fitting a tubular manifold yet as anything to with an Aston Martin guess the price then add a nought on and you won't be far off the price

The best way to look at it is that a Timeless Warranty is invaluable :approve:

Well, what a day!

Went up to AM Newcastle to have a look at the car in the flesh. What a machine, completely mind blowing.

I think black suits the car perfectly, it sits there looking very classy yet somehow manages to look very aggressive at the same time. Had my questions answered all to the positive and took it out for a test drive. despite the SS111 gear system being much derided I found it perfect. The dealership is sited on one of these business parks so thought I'd leave it in auto whilst bumbling along with other traffic going around the multitude of roundabouts that festoon these parks and found it very smooth on gear changes.

Got onto a dual carriageway that was fairly quiet so pulled a paddle to put it into manual shift. it went into 6th gear, the salesman said to knock it down 2 gears to 4th then give it half throttle....Jesus wept, it was instantly off like a scalded cat.

The lightweight seats were superbly comfortable however, I knew they would be as they're the same seats that were im my CSL and when I had that car I thought they were the most comfortable and supportive car seats I'd ever sat in.

The sound of the car was nothing less than sublime. Tuneful, loud but not excessively so, left me having thoughts about doing the secondary cat delete.

Anyhow, to cut a long story short I topped up the deposit to the required amount and drove back to Derby with my fingers crossed!

Fantastico!

Question for Mr Dodd: There are a number of different AM V12 sports car models around your budget. What was your thought process?

Had to be a Vantage V12S up to £110k.The Vantage is the only model that I'd have. Definitely a coupe and from an AM dealer which narrows the field down to not too many to choose from. The last of the old style V12S run were 7 speed manual with a used price way over my budget however, wasn't interested in a manual anyhow.

My ideal car would have lightweight sports seats, lightweight wheels and an alcantara steering wheel. This car has all 3 hence me keeping everything crossed there are no last minute hitches with the house sale. The agents have said that the buyers solicitor has told them he's standing on them to get it done asap.

Can't believe quite how fast things are moving here. Buyer has an appt to sign the contract next Wed, my contract has arrived this morning so will be back with my solicitor by Mon morning. Spoke to the solicitor and he said it could all be done and dusted by next Fri or if not by then it'll be by the following week. Excited doesn't even get close to covering it!

The V12 growl is getting closer :approve:

Update time.

Eventually managed to get the AM dealer to get their backside into gear and collected the car 2 weeks ago.

During the first week had a tracker system and a few more bits fitted, the second week it disappeared into the detailers for a week for him to work his magic...this guy is good!

A few small changes, chrome side strakes were looking a little pitted so were painted black, chrome wheel nuts were replaced by black ones (tried to find good ones on the internet but failed miserably so bit the bullet and bought some from AM, don't ask the price!), side repeaters were tinted black and blend in much better. One thing that cries out to be done is removal of the secondary cats so, it was done

Engine was already warmed up before the video was shot however, Have a feeling that when driving on the road getting into the rev range where it starts to scream I'll end up spending a few nights with Bubba in the cells.
