Do you think we should create a facebook group for the club - just thinking it might encourage new members to join if they are seeing pics of our cars on facebook etc. (sorry if we already have one as I've not done my homework and checked yet!!)

That's the original group on FB which comes with some disadvantages. Maybe would should consider getting a new "page" instead. A page can be liked by people and then content is included better in their news feed, plus as page owner you get better info on the number of people looking/commenting etc..

Sadly nothing we can do to "convert" the group into a page, even as newly made admin on it, but I'll set up a page when I get a chance.

Yep ... the approach of using a group is rather old hat, and so we'll be having a brand new v6clio.net page soon. Lets us do more and has much better controls and "insights". Won't be tonight tho' since I'm busy sorting stuff for my son's youth theatre's FB page .
