Undertray?

Having just changed my pants I thought I'd see if anybody else has had this experience? Whilst out of curiosity seeing how fast my vee would actually go, around 150 there comes a loud bang from the rear of the car followed by very very loud scuffing and flapping, at first I thought a tyre had gone and for the first few seconds awaited the imminent loss of control and barrier chewing which thankfully never came phew!! once I had sowed down to 60ish it vanished to my relief. I pulled over and looked under the car and all looked well but there was some scuffs on the under tray. So my question is would 150mph winds tear your undertray off and pin it to the road? has anybody else had an undertray come loose or is this just because when the main dealer removed and replaced it to do the clutch the have fecked some of the fixings or even possibly left them out? Of course this was on an airfield, a really long one but you gotta try it just once.

my front undertray did exactly as you said, at about 130.. very very scary!

BANG wooooooshhhhhhhhh flap flap flap flap flap flap etc etc etc

it was because the bolts had been broken off by high speed bumps etc.. I ended up removing it altogether and now its much quieter

Scary............. yes!!! my auto functions like breathing and heart beating all stopped for brief spell!!! those darn undertrays

On a high speed run a few months back i could hear something vibrating under the car  upon returning home checked to find two bolts missing and another very loose.

Made sure i replaced them and done the rest up mega tight!

I've got a real early PH1 and got 150 with out any undertray problems but I had mine off and fixed them up real tight.

The car felt really good at 150 though, I drove a V6 that didn't have then undertrays on and at high speeds it felt no where near as stable, I was amazed at the difference they made.

Make sure the front edge of your rear undertray is positioned UNDER the rear edge of the mid tray so that the airflow is smooth and cannot flow 'under' the rear tray - which would likely cause the front to rip away from the two bolts holding it in place.

I know when I refitted my rear tray after an oil change I had to slot the rear tray in place carefully to prevent it overlapping incorrectly. If you look at the front of the rear tray it has slots rather than holes to allow it to slide into place where the two captive bolts drop down from the floor.

Just an idea for everyone. I would imagine it may not be obvious to people/dealers when re-fitting it or maybe people find it too fiddly.

A mid tray you say? I don't remember noticing one when I looked under!! and the rear tray was open to the wind which I thought was a bit odd, any pics of the underside? I'll go have another butchers at mine. :?

Ah yes there is still a middle under tray in place but guess what the rear one is not slotted under the middle one, it only slots under in the middle butclearly this has not been done, the car had just had it removed by the holden Norwich main dealers whom so far have been absolutely rubbish and I cannot recommend them at all!!! I shall post in the dealers section!
