21 Turbo Un1 gearbox

I've always had a problem with 1st to 2nd on the box in this 21. If driving lazy it will catch the gear but there isn't the click-clunk that feels like a positive gear selection like the other gears.
If changing gear at high revs, regardless of boost level, 2nd is simply not there and just grates the gears.
The box has been sent off for repair. He says the internals are really good compared to others he's done in the past with the only possible fault being a tooth on 3rd was chipped and the chip may have interfered with the gear selection. Some other items replaced but not regards faulty 2nd.
Box back in the car and getting chance to test it properly, it's no different. I have noticed some gearstick wobble with hard acceleration-off-back on so am now assuming something has play and 2nd is just out of reach as I try to engage. Engine/box mounts are a bit feeble, box ones are missing the big O rings but they all seem to be doing their job. I plan to change them but I would have though it would be a known common fault if it could be the mount.
The 2 stick to box linkages are looking like the culprit, the one with plastic ball joint sockets seems ok but I can't really see the rubber ones causing this much of a fault?
Suggestions?

It feels like it grabs the syncro, just not the gear. I'll have to check what was replaced, I think the syncro was.
May just have to put up with it for now as I can't take it back of the road just yet!

I had exactly this problem in the cossie 5.
I stripped and rebuilt it myself, twice.
I cleaned and polished all the teeth on the fears and synchros.... It didn't help.
After the 2nd attempt I sent it to Chris Cole and £350ish later I had a new working box.
He put a new hub, new synchros and new thickets springs in. I think I had his last new hub tho.
Well worth getting him to look if he's not packed it in yet.

Mach1 transmissions,Chris Cole.I think he keeps on retiring but not ...he did a special for my RATS' Racer about a year ago ...maybe more ...I think he did another GTA box recently for a guy in the RAOC .

Hmm I'm a little reluctant to remove it since traditionally the car is roadworthy for 2 weeks then off the road for a year, and only 6 days in so far haha.
In my eyes I've paid for a strip, inspect and rebuild, if it's not right then that's the builders problem so should be foc. Like I say, it operates fine when slow, so assume it works fine when bench testing but not bashing it through the gears.
Not sure if the pics will help stu as its the way it operates that needs to be checked to see where the fault could ly. It's got to be tolerances, worn fork, slack spring.
May as well get a known good box for cost/time off the road
