Tyres

The T.I.B.

is rarely serious
I'm replacing my wheels and tyres this Spring. I've found some wheels I'd like but not sure on what tyres to go for.

Toyos seem to be everywhere and there's a few versions. Are Toyo T1-S OK, and is there anything I should be looking for? (other than the name )

size likely 195/15

Thanks, Tom

My preference, which will inevatibly be different to a few others, and the same as some others, lol, is Yoko A539's.

Excellent dry grip, average wet grip.

toyo T1S, I have yet to try the T1R's.

For the money they are exceptional. Very good in the wet good in the dry.

But as Craigy poo said tyres are a personal choice.

A fucked 32 quid toyo proxes is easier to life with than a 100 quid goodyear etc!

Nankangs are the way here

Altho teh lancia has goodyear eagle f1's and the 16" 19 wheels have them too

Changing wheels but not getting bigger is plain wrong btw

I've used 195/50/15 Toyo T1-R's in the past. If you're using them on the road only, they are very good.... wet or dry, but on the track they are rubbish! The side walls are nowhere near stiff enough and were finished after 3 trackdays (250 miles). I was thinking about replacing them with road legal trackday tyres like the Toyo R888, but these have half the tread depth to begin with and cost twice as much! I'm trying some 195/45/15 Khumho's now  . I'll let you know how they stand up this weekend, but at £25 a corner, I'm not expecting much....

changing the wheels for the same size will affect the ride as will different tres, as will different pressures and so on

Using both T1-R & T1-S on the 19, cant complain. Never given them real tough time but on some of my spirited drives home they do the job well. The R's have lasted well, they were advisory on the MOT in 2005 and 2006 they passed again. Used to have Yoko A539's on the front, were just as good in the dry but in the wet they had a tendancy to slide where the toyos dont.

my plan is to put Toyo Proxes T1-R 16" on mine this spring as well.. very grippy and they should be good on noise and wear as well..

sounds like toyos coming out favourite then.

think i will stick with 15" wheels, don't fancy 16s (not so common) and 17s are a bit pricey and i'm not sure of the look either :?

You're better off with Pirelli P6000s wicked tyres and not badly priced either. Got them for £190 incl fitting, bal and vat

avon make a tyre called the star performer which is cheap as chips and excellent all round performance, i can get these in the form of 195/50/15 for £25 all in

or toyo proxes for 130 quid balanced and new valves.

I have the star performer on the red car, not as good as the toyos but pretty decent.
