Got to buy a new set all round...

currently running 215/35/18 up front and it's awful.

What do people recommend? I read something about 225/40/18 up front? Anyone else running these?

You can get Michelin Super Sport = 205 / 40 ZR18 - This is the original Renault recommended size

This will give you a side wall profile 6.75mm taller, 13.5mm in total.

You could also try Michelin Super Sport = 225 / 40 ZR18

This will give you a side wall profile 14.75mm taller, 29.5mm in total.

The higher profile should give you better feel.

cheers for that... what about 225/35? the 215/35's I have currently ar pretty horrid in terms of feel. Rather stick as close to standard as possible... Whats this about Renault recommending 225/40 as well, anyone else heard this?

Renault recommended Michelin Super Sport = 225 / 40 ZR18 when you couldn't get the 205 / 40 ZR18 as Michelin had stopped making them.

I've been running 215/40/18 on the front for years and they feel great, just 10mm wider than standard, IMO you won't go wrong with this size :approve:

thinking of nankang ns2r's all round, but they don't do 40 profile for the rears...

upfront 225/40/18 - 8mm taller
rear 255/35/18 - 8.75mm shorter

so the front would sit 8mm higher than standard and the rear 9mm lower than standard... think this would be alright?

Forgive the stupid question... But why would it be higher than std. I thought the standard profile was 40...

It a percentage of the tyre width.

So 225 / 40 is 225mm wide. 40% of 225 = 90mm sidewall.

Why not 205/40/18 ? many producers still offer it.. Falken, Dunlop, Pirelli..

Best to keep the rolling diameter standard - else lose accuracy on the speedometer.

Exactly, and isnt 205/40/18 what renault put on a new car?

205/40 is the OEM size for 18" front tyres. 225/40 being the Renault recommended replacement size since the 205/40/18 PS2 was discontinued by Michelin.
There is now a Michelin PS3 205/40/18 available, although the Super Sport is the replacement for the PS2.

OEM tyre size for me, 205/40/18 in Super Sport.

Renault would have played about with various different tyre sizes during development, so logic suggests to me that for Renault to 'recomend' the 225/40 in the absence of a 205/40 means that the 205/40 was the better tyre for the car.

As far as I recall: Michelin were the only manufacturer to offer this size. If the situation has changed - then that is news to me.

Falken do a tyre 205 but it's more suited to the low powered PH1s I guess.
