Two Ph1s for sale in Norway. Might buy

Hi guys!

This is my first post here.
I'm looking to buy one of these cars and two have just popped up here in Norway.

Both cost £ 34.000. I'll be having a look at them on Thursday so I'm reading the buyers guide and lots of other stuff here on the forum.
But I wanted to ask you guys if there is anything wrong you can spot with these cars?
I see there is a switch and a button near the light buttons (?) on one car, and some holes at the same place on the other. Is this some kind of mod? Cause on the regular pictures I have seen I've never seen any holes at those places.

In advance, thank you for helping me.

Best regards Fat_Board

I'll get started:

#1 looks fairly standard apart from the flocked dashboard. Should be cheap to put back to OEM with a Ph1 172 donor dashboard and this guide: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mwLlZr8g8_c
It looks like the steering wheel has experienced some melting.

#2 will take more correction as there it's had the front bumper cross-member cut-out and rear spoiler replaced with a 182 Cup version. The steering wheel has had a weird retrim. Orange seat belts!!!

Hi & Welcome,

Both cars look ok, both have had some modfications.

I would say, this car looks the better one. Bodywork is really nice, looks very clean.

Your right, there are some holes next to the light buttons which is a modification (or was), this is likely something like an after market alarm that was once fitted.
I also notice that the upper dash has been flocked, the steering wheel has been retrimmed, the stearo head unit is aftermarket, and it looks like one of the dash vents has broken, or is missing?

This one has lots of modifcications, bumper modfication, black headlights, aftermarket spoiler, some modification to the fog lights, its msising its front splitter, aftermarket head unit again, black side repeaters,
the rear bumper looks like it could be a slightly different shade of silver? possibly repainted?

hope that helps.

Hi guys!

Thank you for the info.

I just visited the first car as you said it was the best looking.
It was imported from Japan so the service booklet was in japanese. I don't speak japanese so I can't understand anything.
Does anyone of you read japanese and can help me out?
I took some pictures of the car and some details around it.
I don't have the time to upload everything now to this site cause I have to get to work, so I just uploaded it to my Dropbox.

Here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rz7pnjdsyl6f ... -5B9a?dl=0

Please have a look and tell me what you guys think of this car.

Ph1 all shiny in the showroom looks stunning. Am i the only one who prefers the PH1 looks...Still hate the blue interior though!!!

Thanks for the pictures. It does look a pretty clean car, but could do with a few little bits of cosmetic tidying up, nothing that is at odds with its age though.

The only thing that stands out to me is there appears to be two little strange dark bits in the very top corners of the rear hatch that look a bit rusty? They are not normally there!

Sadly I cant read any Japanese either, but from the chassis number I believe this car was originally supplied to Italy and registered as BZ491XH.

I do know of an extremley clean LHD phase 1 that is for sale in the UK, dare i say one of the cleanest ive seen. Happy to pass on the details if you are interested.

Thank you Duncan. With the service manual it was also an italian instruction booklet. Funny enough it told you how to install child seats in the backseat :-P
The two spots you're talking about is it one on each side? Cause when I looked at it it looked like it was some sort of foam tape.

If you know of a car please share! It really depends on how expensive it will be to import it to Norway.

I have sent various vehicles and engines to Norway over the years. Cars over 25 years do not attract duty but younger vehicles get hit for up to 250% import duty, which explains the costs, basically a £10k car in the UK becomes £35k in Noggie!
We used to do classics such as Stags, MGBV8s etc in the 80s, we bought absolute wrecks, exported them, normally in bits on a trailer, paid the duty and promptly brought them back on the return ferry with their 'new' identity and then completely restored them. As they had had a Norwegian registration, it was straightforward to then send them back. :approve: The Noggie customs are not stupid as to values of classic and collectors cars so you wont pull the wool over their eyes

If the car is over 30 years you dont have to pay a lot of the taxes for it. I dont remebmer wich you dont have to pay or not. But everything is cheaper.
(Saving up for a DeLorean! :-D )
