Twingo Twingo 225

Progress is slow right now due to not have many hours free but other than the sump and a FOOKINGGG tight crank sprocket to remove the jobs a gooden. She's cleaned up well so far, but im determined not to rush here in order to get a half decent DIY paint job done and done ONCE šŸ˜‚
Time to start ordering in some parts needed to rebuild this engine.
Engine dynamics seem to be coming up trumps here..
Any other recommendations from people?

Hiya, forgive me if im having a simple moment here but quicksilver?
I was aware that some modification may have been needed to the chassis but in all honesty I've been a little blasƩ to it thus far and just seen it as another hurdle to overcome.
Am I starting to bite off more than I can chew here?
I have my reasons for wanting the NDO box retained, mostly for the cost side as swapping to a clio box means swapping sumps and all sorts.
The idea of getting the donor car was so that I didn't have to collect various components.
Ive seen it done on a few twingos
Namely the green one on YouTube. But can't find any decent info on how it was actually achieved.

I was hoping in doing this build and using the NDO box that I could well document it so others can feel brave enough to undertake this project to!! So many options šŸ˜‚
Its the same as swapping into a mk2 clio, you can find a couple more of these swaps online than twingo ones. And I'm sure briggsy one is ndo box? Although don't quote me on that I can't remember. A clio 197 box?
Because if you use a 172 one you'll have to remove the hydraulics from the foot pedal etc as clio 172 is cable.

Hi mate. Thanks for the info. Any help is appreciated of course!

Looking to keep the ndo box with this engine, the twingo will be here with me at the garage this weekend coming so in the next few weeks I'll be able to test fit some components and see what's what.

Little update for the build thread. One painted block šŸ’ŖšŸ½ finished and ready for assembly. Got it up on the engine stand today as well ready to remove the crank assembly.

I figured I may as well go in for a set of mains and big ends bearings whilst im at it for a relatively low cost.

Standard bearings are good for 400+ bhp..
Race bearings obviously higher (So the internet says...)
Price difference around £100 between standard and race.
Opinions guys?
I do aim to take this engine to around 300bhp so what to do

I couldn't get to it yesterday as duties called but this evening I got down and dirty with the twingo k4m. Andd voila. One engine removed, and what a sorry state she's in!! Leaking oil just about EVERYWHERE!!
To my knowledge the twingo never came decat? Right?
This whole time of owning this thing and its a bloody decat. I knew I had the scorpion back box and she sounds throaty so I aim to retain this bit of kit.
Who knew eh.. so. Ill say again.
Engine and gearbox plus all related ancillaries such as manifolds etc for sale. Cheappp to shift it ASAP!!
Hit me up guys.

I see a lot of varnish in the Megane head. Have you checked valve guide clearance?
Varnish in the megane head?
As far as the head goes i haven't yet paid attention to this. I am aware of some scoring in the cam journals that needs attention but otherwise haven't overlooked/checked valve clearances etc.
When this engine was running there was the common top end ticking but nothing excessive.

Ive been a busy boy šŸ˜‰ I took a direction with the twingo I didn't quite think I would. But I got thinking. What's the point in putting a shiny rebuilt engine back into a standard bay? With everything else just looking abit meh..
So ive removed literally everything from the engine bay and well here we are.
Primed and ready for paint. She'll be shipped off at some point next week to be painted. All is to be revealed šŸ˜… ive decided to make an already uncommon car even more quirky 🤪

Engine parts should be here any day now!! Things are on the up! I think my 6 month window has well and truly gone out the window now šŸ˜‚

P.s the meg 225 seats have scrubbed up pretty well. Hoping these fit nicely into the twingo

Sorry, what I meant is that the head has a lot of varnish, looks like the oil change intervals were too long, or bad oil, it's very dark. Because of this, I would check the valve guides, as in my (short) experience they can wear quickly (consequently engine burning a lot of oil). This happened to me in a low mileage engine (60k miles, but also driven very slow all its life), was using a lot of oil and the exhaust valves were dancing in their guides.

Hello! Understood now!
Having stripped this apart totally I can say I agree. Oil changes were definitely not this previous owners favourite jobs to do clearly.
The head itself will be fully rebuilt with new valves and guides etc.. an expensive job but worth it in my eyes. Thankyou for your input mate. Any valued comments help!
