tuning my clio sport v6

Dear People, i am new here and really joined to a be able to ask a question to the mass rather than a few or some one that done one once. I am a proud owner as you are of a clio v6 reg 02, 1 owner and only just now 16000 mls i heard a log time ago that one of the models was the better to buy and i am sure it was the ph1 but am not sure although it was a long time ago ( because you can do more with them ??), now the question that i`ve wanted answered for a while and just recently finding out that my car is only the 230 bhp model is should i get it tuned up a bit, and how ?. Dont get me wrong i think the car is awsom looking, i even had a lady of the age of late 60`s ? admiring it the other day ( the smiling and waving was a bit scarry) but as we all must do ourselfs still walk round our cars for hours. No the reason is i really dont like the idea that golfs can even think about it, and from finding out that mine is only good for 6.4 /0-60 it worries me let alone some honda beeting me the other day and it was a she but she did blow something (black smoke and a stench from her exhaust) haha, so good and experienced people what to do??? will it really devalue the car ?? will the engine only be good for 35k if i do tune it ?? over the years and even when i had the pug and xr2 etc ( yes im of the slightly older tipe) i`ve heard of chipping and mapping i dont want to drive so fast that i kill myself just enough to pull away from any thing but a r32 and even then i would like to say fuck of But

Or should i just leave the car standard and think yes but just look at the car Bitch (sorry girls)

Please help Brethrem

Hi Roy, In my personal opinion i'd leave it standard. The gains that you get from a chip, filter, and exhaust are minimal for the money spent. I sold my v6 a couple of weeks ago and mine had a quiksilver exhaust, superchip, and a bmc filter. The main reason i sold it was the fact it didnt go that well (it did look amazing though). I know of people who spend £10k + trying to get above 300 bhp and to me it just didnt seem worth it. I've just bought another evo and i've spent less than £2k and i expect between 360 and 390bhp when the bits are fitted.

Just my opinion. Keep it standard pal.

I would suggest you look into either chipping or mapping with a better exhaust and filter. Speak to one of the well know tuners if you want to be drawn into heavier mods, and you have many ££££s to spare.

N/A tuning is always expensive. There's a few dopes on here who've shelled out loads of cash to get the gains your after.
You need to love the car and want to keep it for a while because as always you won't get that money back when you sell.
It can be done though......have a browse through this section and Special Projects.

welcome :) remember though in a vee you dont have to go fast to kill yourself or the car ! Get used to its handling first and the fun you can have. If you bought it thinking you could haggle i lot of other cars then the vee may have been the wrong choice ? Enjoy it though cause they are ace cars :) martin

Hi, Martin and thanks for your reply, i bought the v6 because ive fancied them for years and intend to keep the car for years to, its not going anywhere!!!. Another question and to anyone, the handling!! getting to 110 ofcourse takes nothing but i havnt gone much over this speed because once you do you have to hold on, it wants to go all over the place ? certainly not a straight line, some one has told me to get a full wheel alinement and or should i put a bag of ballast in the front, is the a common problem or would you say something is wrong.

Thanks for your reply, theres a website that im sure many have looked at where they have nitroed the v6 A two-stage 100 hp kit from Nitrous Express. 0-60 in 4.9 and 350bhp im sure that this has not cost 10k ?? http://www.nology.com/clio. Do you know much about another problem i seem to have with the handling! anything over 110mph the car is all over the place , someone has said to have a full wheel alinement, ive thought about a bag of ballast in the front end- or is it a problem ??

4 Wheel alignment is a good idea before anything else. Also check tyre pressures as they're critical. For high speed stability you really need the splitter/spoiler combination but it's not to everyone's taste.
The figures for the Nology V6 are to be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't believe that car has ever run 11.4.

Thanks again i will book it in for the wheel alinement, obviously ive got the tyre presure in the book but in english what should i be looking for in the front and back tyres they are michs. As for the speed not sure ide expect you know more than me about that although if i rack my brains back didnt the escort turbos do it in around 11.8 ish ??? im trying to think back to fast car etc but forgive me i am 37 haha thought there was plenty that where around that speed. was still thinking the clio is faster, must forgive me still in love with it

cheers Roy

Nitrous is cheating  I were on about real power

And 4.9 0-60 is slow [smilie=hide.gif]

Oh and to back TRW1 up that clio is never doing less than 12 seconds. I'd say more of a high 13 - 14 sec would be more realistic?

The best mod u can do in my opinion is get it mapped so it drives smoother and pullls better.

That handling thing you describe is what they do hehe. Escort RS Turbos run about 16 second quarters.

Front tyres want to be 20psi, rears 30psi.

When I checked mine they were 32 all round, correcting this made it drive like a new car.
