tuning & misfortune!! long post

Pretty much sums up the last 4 months of my vee ownership!!!

It all started at the top of the year, my standard exhaust was woefully rusted and i needed a new one. Instead of getting just a backbox, i decided to go for the complete janspeed system. Scott kindly offered me some help and advise and mentioned that the gains i would get would not be huge, but to try and increase the, mentioned someone who had a phase 2 inlet (and complete gubbins, throttle body gaskets etc) sat around that had never been used....so a deal was struck and off i went to pick it up!!

then i found a ph2 gearbox from a 2005 mk2 that had done 20k. the bits were then all delivered to scott for fitting.

he made no promises on bhp claims or anything as the dastek unit recomended to manage fuelling was new. and mine would be the first clio v6 to have it installed (beating peter by a day or 2, but it all counts  )

lots of polished bits and engine shots:

anyway, it was mapped by owen developments to a very healthy 253bhp @ 6497 & 211 lbftt @ 5956. off i went to pick it up and although its not a huge increase in power, it was MORE than noticible. the car felt alive, rev happy and just had so much more top end poke!! the mk2 gearbox is much nicer to work than the mk1 and feels like your always in the power band as opposed to trying to get into it.

bit of a tight sqweeze in there now!!

next upgrade was the mk1 - mk2 light conversion....wish id done it sooner!

(ps, my lens is scratched so the left hand side of the photos appears a tad hazey)

then the window tints came off. hated them damm things, but they were good for privacy, i feel like im in a green house now!!

then came the misery!

on a drive home i decided to take the long way... and out ran a monkjack dear at 40mph which i couldnt avoid......BANG

13.jpg

balls...

the little sod made a mess of the bumper, wing, d panel, wheel arch liner, fog light and fog light surround.

gutted.

on went a search on how to fix it....i had some people look at it and all deicided the fibe glass was fixable.

it was just the fog surrounds that posed the problem. i hated the manky plastic fog light surrounds and refused to pay 300 notes for one so brought the streamline carbon ones....wow, they are SO much better!!!! better fit, better quality and i think look much cleaner.

off the car went to imagination creations (who fixed it when it was driven into in a car park last year) who repaired it all at a great price.

i went took a picture of it whilst the bumper was off just for intrest!!

they worked on it for the next week or so and i picked her up this afternoon

i think it looks better than before it went in!!

some close ups of the streamline carbon fog surrounds for those interested:

whilst it was there, i fitted mk2 rear grilles (my wire mesh was manky and rusty)

and a mk2 boot lock surround which looks miles nicer IMO

Imagination creations have also made me a trophy copy front splitter which is being sprayed this weekend to go on next week. ill get some picks of it up when done. they have a template made for it now so can knock up and spray accordingly if any mk1 owners are after one, i can sort it out.

after being sat around the car is running lumpy from cold & backfiring, its fine once warm, but still something to get sorted.

maybe its the mk1's cold map not being happy with a mk2 inlet plenum? ill let scott fatham that one out when he gets a chance.

next stop mk2 18's, i have managed to get 3 for £200 so far, so just need one more then they will be going on!

ive been driving a new fiesta 1.2 which i got as runaround while the vee was off the road, was scary as hell getting back in the vee on a very wet afternoon. god its quick!!!! :D

wanted to share the misfortune with the club as its a part of the cars history now. its not a "mint condition original" but its still a well looked after good honest car in my eyes :)

Mate that looks awesome now!!!

Exhaust, lights and tints all make a massive difference.

May I say one of the nicest mk1's about  :thumb

James

Good solid sensible modding and I'm pleased to see you kept the MK 1 front. :thumb

I hope you get the running glitch sorted out. We all have wee acciDents nothing to worry about.

Hi Duncan,
Really interesting and honest write up :thumb

Like James says, accidents happen but it's how you repair them that's important. You have obviously done your research and found a good company and the work has been done to a very high standard. If I was a prospective buyer then that wouldn't put me off your car.

Nice mod's and tastefully done! It's looks so much better without the tinting and I love the mk2 rear grills!! :thumb

Lucy :)

Nice to see the Carbon fog light surrounds I got done with Bic and Merv are going to good use!! Next on the list is front and rear bumbers to make those nasty prangs a bit cheaper to put right.

Must say it does look great Duncan. The panel gaps are spot on which really bugs me with mine [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif]

Glad you've got it all sorted!

Your car is really coming together. Like it! [smilie=bowdown.gif]

Much better without the pimp tints!

Peter :D

awesome dude...lucky u get everything fixed
for the engine conversion, did you just get phase 2 inlet plenum and stuff you mentioned,
do you need to also get the cams and stuff?

can you do a write up on that so we mk1s can source the parts needed also?
thanks!

thanks guys!! im really happy with it. great to be back driving it again after a long break. i had almost forgotten what special cars the vees are and how much fun they are to drive.

davilamb, have pmed you about the engine parts, i was lucky as i was put in contact with someone who had all the parts neccesary brand new still boxed up for sale.

Good write up Duncan :thumb

Looking at the pictures now and seeing your car yesterday the body shop have done a spot on job mate.

Glad you have got it all sorted :D (and them tints have gone  )

Looks good. :thumb

I'd never get a my car with a splitter on it up my drive with my ride height! [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

Peter

Dont give me more ideas Brett!! lol!!

heres the splitter on the car!

havent had much of blast to report any difference in feeling yet but i like it so far :thumb

I have always liked the look of the Mk1 over Mk2 and that splitter just sets your Mk1 off - a more motorsport front end IMHO ;-)
