Top mounts V6 ph2 ?

I'm kinda thinking that there could be some middleground here.
I reckon some 6082-T6 mounts with a neoprene gasket would give you the benefits of a STM, but without the allout harshness and transfer of wear to other suspension and chassis components.

Now - I could have a new CAD project to kick off when doing the KW fitting. Anyone up for the idea? Should ~I start a thread?

I certainly would be interested...... :approve:

Just thought I would resurrect this thread since #002 will have KW V3's installed this year, so looking to sharpen up the front end precision and steering feel. As such, would appreciate any advice from those who have experience of any or all of the top mounts noted below, or any others - have left out Mark Fish mounts since I feel that they will be rather excessive for road use.

The CompBrake, AST and Pure Motorsport products look rather good, with an impressive (motorsport derived) spec. It also seems like there are two types:

Those that do not require drilling of strut towers:
1. CompBrake
2. AST
3. Kam Racing

Those that require holes drilled on each strut tower:
1. CompBrake
2. Pure Motorsport
3. K-Tec

What are the pros & cons of having each type? Of course the drilled variety will be more secure when compared to those that do not require drilling, but I would imagine the level of feedback and precision to be very similar, and for largely road use any differences in precision and feel, if any, should not be noticeable. I would also imagine that the undrilled variety will need more maintenance, say for example, an annual check to inspect and torque up the bolts?

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you.

My advice, no need for either and I track my Vee a fair bit more than most!!

Just replace with OEM.

Thanks, but have you tried the KW V3's with solid mounts. If so, did you go back to OEM? Replacing with OEM is the default option, but I am looking for advice on the different types of solid top mounts.

I have had cars with solid top mounts, but these had solid top mounts installed at the factory (see my posts earlier in this thread), and, along with other tweaks, did sharpen up the handling and steering quite a bit when compared to their standard road-going siblings. I have never converted from OEM (rubber) mounts to solid mounts, so don't have a reference point. However, others earlier in this thread, who have converted their Vees from OEM to solid mounts, have had positive things to say about their chosen product. As such, I am now looking for a comparison between the two types of solid top mounts, and the pros & cons of each type.

Fair enough. No, Is the answer to your question. That said, I had solid top mounts on my 172 and they were atrocious on anything other than track.

Indeed I can well believe it. I wouldn't dream of having solid mounts on the 182 Trophy for road use, my only other experience with Renaults, as the T is already harsh enough, which is why I stopped using #262 on motorway runs, but its steering feel is much better than the Vee's.

Sorry to come in late on this - but there was a picture of an OEM top mount posted (several years ago) looking very sorry for itself.
At that point, I was of the opinion that it was an 'under-engineered' OEM component and was something that I would be looking to address in due course. It's refreshing (but also confusing!) that there are several options available to you Dulan. It certainly looks like you'll have to be a pioneer on this study. :approve:

Interesting to hear what you say Kett. Indeed Scott too recommended that I replace the OEM mounts. The K-Tec mounts are the ones he recommended, but I would rather not have holes drilled into the strut towers if I can help it. Hence the research into alternatives.
