Whats the top 5 mods people do to there vee??

I realise most of you will want to keep the vee as standard as poss, but are there any changes that most of you change to improve the car, such as suspension?, or maybe a fruitier exhaust?

I am guessing the things that are changed most are breathing mods and wheels?
cheers

Exhaust (ktec, quicksilver, orbisoud etc) and induction kit (bmc, piper) are the basics
Some change seats too for trendlines out of new clios.
Clear engine cover
Front splitter
New coils!
Then depends how far you want to go with it..... :)

The 255 is fine as standard and it's worth saving up for cambelts, brake dics and front bumper resprays; rather than spend out on modifications.

I've done:
wheels, zorst, front splitter, induction and RST remap.

I only rate:
induction and remap (the pick up is smoother but not necessarily quicker - though you wonder why they charge so much for 5 minutes work?)

I also would've taken up a recaro seat option and probably the 197 steering wheel conversion, if I didn't have the uber rare full leather.

If I had a 230: I'd probably additionally add MkII wheels and MKII subframe...
...though it's easier to buy one that had some of these things done already. ;)

Non-OEM external finishes and wheels mostly devalue the Vee. Trophy spoilers and cromodora wheels are the exception.

My top 5.

Replacement Recaro seats are essential. Std ones are rubbish, too soft and offer no support.
A smaller Reanultsport steering wheel is great. Really changes the steering feel.
New backbox is good for looks and sound (full system is better but costly).
Clear engine covers (top and bottom) look good.
Personal plate IMO.

Performance mods are costly and a slippery slope.... [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Peter :)

My top 5 in no particular order...

1. Recaro Trendlines as the standard seats are gash
2. Janspeed exhaust with custom straight tips
3. Clio Cup Racer Sabelt steering wheel retrimmed in silver because my standard wheel was in a right state
4. New wheels (Being done next week)
5. Total respray in a not very common colour with race graphics (Being done next week)

I agree with Kett to some extent in that the stock Vee is a well thought out bit of kit (255 moreso perhaps with engine and spec improvements) ...

Universally most would say seats must be changed to make the drive a little more engaging, apart from that the playing field is wide open - taking into account the limited 'off the shelf' options ...

Tuning and cosmetic bolt ons tend to be most common in the usual areas such as ...

Exhausts, Air Filter, Splitters, Spoilers etc.
Suspension modifications such as coilovers are quite common and also there are recent threads regarding brake alternatives ... Pad material is also an upgrade choice ...
Engine covers and bulkheads have got a lot of press and there are various options depending on tastes and requirements ...

Tuning is more specialist ranging from Chip upgrades on the OEM setup moving towards replacement ECU's such as Motec, and other associated upgrades around cams, headwork aswell as some examples of forced induction and Nitrous ... These require deeper pockets and include more risk ...
Wheels are less common but Trophy wheels have become popular but availability is low unless you are prepared to do research and look overseas.
I guess it's also worth mentioning Tyres as there is quite a bit of choice over the OEM Pilots so this is an option as tyres are pretty critical with the Vee ...

You also often find individual projects and options in particular areas have resulted in unique and diverse cars as owners come up with their own ideas and implementations rather than just buying stuff 'off the shelf' ...

If you have a Mk1 then options extend to upgrading to Mk2 stuff around the wheels, subframe, engine parts route but you have to ask the question as to whether the Mk2 option to start with is preferable ...

Much of this echos what has already been said and it's a question of personal choice and budget. The stock Mk2 is hard to beat IMHO but there are a lot of modificed cars also, no two are the same ...

My Vee is totally standard (expect for the private plate) but I would consider:

KTec backbox (loved it on my phase 1);
Trendlines

Other than this then, as said, save save save for servicing and parts :)

Different new seats are on my wish list, and one of those more modern steering wheels, then a full respray (haven't decided on the colour yet).

Mine's pretty much standard too. I like the OEM look, so only have these discrete mods;

1/ Recaro Trendlines, a nice 'period' upgrade/modification using seats from a 182 cup. (JT had these in his first vee, the B/G one. I knew then I had to get some too when the time came.)

2/ PiperX panel filter, same size as the paper one.. so not visible

3/ Full Janspeed exhaust system with bespoke OEM style tips, more for weight reduction at the rear than anything else.

4/ Venture Shield (If you can call it a modification)

5/ Soon to have braided brake hoses. Had them on the old vee, and want them on this one too.

Buy a sheet of perspex, cut the shape, fit some quarter turn clips, fit a seal around it.

Sounds interesting!

Where do I get a clear engine cover from?

Thanks

I thought you may have let Stevos cat out the bag there (asuming there is one) but are you referring to your own car ? All sounds good and an excellent trend having seen the pics of Jays car already :approve:

1/ KW Coilovers, both for looks and improved handling
2/ PiperX Evo filter & Exhaust for NOISE
3/ Recaro's
4/ Lower profile rubber again for looks moreover
5/ Caliper and wheels decals, new style RS badges.

Loving the perspex route and seat upgrade... do the treadlines go straight in? what about the recaros from a 197f1??

All depends on the subframes, you maybe lucky and get a set from a clio trophy and thus will slot straight in but these are very rare. You can buy the subframes seperately from places like Capital seating and buy second hand seats from maybe a Megane, Evo, Honda, Audi, Subaru etc.

Places like Capital seating do full sets of Recaro's complete with subframes but unfortunately they are priced at a premium.

The 197f1 seats will only fit if again you replace the subframe and there is quite a bit of work involved as these standard seats have a very intricate subframe arrangement and it maybe more hassle than its worth.

Keep an eye out on ebay or childsport, as sets of secondhand Trendlines with subframes do come up for sale at about the £800-£900 mark.

My upgrades on the Mk1 that I recommend are below

Believe that the Mk1 is 80kg lighter than a Mk2 as standard and no doubt lighter again with some of the mods below?

Mk2 gearbox upgrade - better ratios and acceleration
KW Suspension - better handling, lowers the car as well
Janspeed Exhaust - better sound
BMC Air Filter - better induction sound
15mm Eibach spacers - for front wheels to filll the arches

Interesting that people make such a fuss about the seats as I get a pair of Recaros fitted this week courtesy of Stevo who sold them to me from here, so looking forwards to seeing the difference :)

I'm not a modder by nature (honest) e.g. was forced to get the Mk2 gearbox and exhaust because my previous ones were damaged!

Yep I'm on about my own car :)

The paint God is doing Stevo's this week and hopefully starting mine next week. A few people know what I'm having done but all will be revealed very soon :approve:

Mossy.

Optional extra Trendlines fitted to 182's, including the cup, will also fit straight in.. ;)
