Titanium 255 #19 £16,995

In ref to the gear box - i'm sure James knows this but my one had a new box fitted (Renault paid half bill) by Renault at 19444 miles on the 5/8/13 (i only have 20070 miles now ) Not sure if all new but numbers were - R7711135103 and R7711135103XP
I think the gear box in mine feels loose ish and sloppy - but i have only driven my phase 2 so would have no idea how the gear change is supposed to 'feel' ???? The cost of box and pack was £1346.52 plus vat the pack was foc ? Nice to know i have a nearly new one but does feel very sloppy ????

That's not a bad price for a box fitted by Renault, or was the half you paid??

Mine is nice and snikkety at 26k miles, it's extremely light throw on them all though...

Hi Colin,

That was the full price of the part - R7711135103 (G/BOX MANU PK6S09) Customer paid half that cost plus VAT
As i say mine just feels as though there is a lot of side to side play in it ? My mini is precise with NO play in it on 47k . Scott had NO issues with it so it didn't worry me when i bought it from Geoff. Just seems - i dont know 'slack' lol - i have no idea !! lol  I would think our James woud know what those part no's are in ref to  Bless him :salut:

Yes Craig that is a reconditioned service exchange gearbox. £1,672.19

New gearbox is £2,744.83 and the later gearbox is a wee bit cheaper at only £2,681.16 :)

Interesting, trust these are both Phase 2 boxes? If so, do we know that the differences are between the two?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!! So I now am an owner of a 20k vee with a recon gearbox ??? Ahhhhhhhhhhhh !! Please please please tell me this is good ??? I hate the word "reconditioned" - ahhhhhhhhhhhh! !!

Surely a newly reconditioned box is the best your likely to get? reconditioning of boxes usually means replacing the internals with brand new bits.

Id rather that than one thats been sat on a shelf since 2002!

As I say I have no idea :-( so do I still have the original box that has had lots of new bits in it ? Recon to me is you get a recon unit and your old "broken one" is taken away and repaired but they keep it and sell on ?? My worry is I may have a box that did 80k and has been re conned ?? I just don't no ahhhhhhhhhhhh !! Lol !!

Craigy - there are so many idiosyncrasies with the Vees. Being hand-made, there are no two the same.
Comparison with the play you describe with another Vee is the best way to get a feel for the answer. Find a Vee buddy!

I got one ! Lol ! :-) it's LOVELY My 2nd one - regretted sale of 1st phase 1 ! I pm'ed James and so far he has put my mind straight :-) as I have said I had a 'prefixed' idea of recon :-( it is with my vee not as bad ( no where) near as bad as o thought !! Fewwwwww !! :-) Any way I think I can now sleep this eve ! :-) :-)

When I said 'find a Vee buddy' - I meant a fellow owner.
Glad your feeling more relaxed about things.
: )

lol ;) Sorry !! No one in my area - i only got 20k on the clock so travelling for me a no no !! i just love looking at it [smilie=yay.gif] i will now await a comment on why do i worry about the gearbox !! Its just me being me ! This is a VERY expensive purchase for me and it is really to be honest a 'toy ' i do about 1000 miles a year - but i will enjoy EVERY SINGLE ONE [smilie=yay.gif] It was a shock seeing recon i do appologise for my thickness :tumble: I just wanted a really good example [smilie=yay.gif] I think i have now officially ruined this thread - sorry James :(

Mine is well overdue a belt...And If it breaks, so be it. I'll fix it. What's to say that the new belt which has been sitting in the box for 5 years is any better!...

There are far more pressing things on my car which require mechanical attention! (of course now that I've moaned about this, mine will inevitably snap; probably whilst on track!)

C'est la vie!

Well that's music to my ears as I've been feeling a bit guilty about not changing my cam belt (AGAIN) since I last had it done in 2009 (£5k bill all in all - thanks Renault Watford....). I've only covered 7000 miles since then and I understand that it's not just about mileage but perishablility too, but the chances of me finding a competent V6 service agent here in Italy able to carry this out are close to the square root of FKall. So I haven't had it changed... engine is as sweet as a nut however - I don't thrash it to the rev limiter (the torque in itself is a delight to use - when I'm not trying I can take hairpins in 4th without strain in which my other BMW 3,0 diesel struggles in 2nd). My only worry is that an eventual cam belt failure results in such an engine wreck that it's game over for my V6 completely...am I worrying too much? Should I bring my V6 back to the UK for a cam belt change and maybe some other recent performance/brake improvements? Any recommendations?

If it was me (natural worrier - perhaps I should change my user name to that !!) I would be scouring the Internet in Italy to find somewhere ! Your belt has not only perished BUT it's been working unlike a boxed one ?? I don't agree with the comment you highlighted I'm no mechanic by miles. I do worry to much and I'm EXTREMELY lucky to have Scott 10 miles away - in my opinion your gonna be lucky or your not - I really hope not ! When I had my phase one I asked Scott if after only 5000 miles in five years do I really need to do it he was very open with his answer ! I think he said he has never had one in that went which says a lot for the quality of the cam belt ( this was 2 1/2 years ago - his opinion may have changed I haven't asked him since ) but I felt he was trying just to soothe my worries and I booked it in as I was NOT prepared to but my luck to the test as my luck is terrible ! To end - if I was you I would be searching Italy for a Sports car specialist you are in Italy ! Lots of rear end motors ( won't mention makes ) ;)
