Yeah or nay ?

I have the rears blacked out on mine, I'm in two minds about removing them, Last garage has stuck two rear windscreen stickers ( I hate running about with someone's name on the back ) on top of the tint.


So i can see them, But from outside you see nothing.......... Pointless and there is a couple of scratches.

Also has anyone removed them, Talked to a tinting guy and he advised me to take a flat blade to remove the adhesive, But what about the rear demister ? Don't want to hack it to bits.

Kind of what i'm thinking. Time to de-chav.

Any tip on the rear windows guy's, some sort of solution rather than the blade.

White spirit maybe ?

Never taken window tints off, but i have removed some 'white stripes' that were already on a car i bought. I used a electric heater to warm the vinyl, a good hair dryer would do the same. Then a solution bought from a UPVC supplier, they use to clean UPVC, takes mastic off etc, took the adhesive off no probs, without damage to the paint.

Took my sons off his BMW after he was stopped and told they were to dark.

it was a hot day but a hairdryer may help, just get an edge and peel off, it may split a bit but should come off Ok, BUT then the fun begins, it will proberly leave all the glue on the glass, its well sticky and horrible, i used paint thinners and plenty of rag and washed it off.

Sticky sh*t every were.

You may want to remove the engine covers as the thinners will bugger the plastic vinyl trim big time. Although the BMW trim did not seem to mind it.

There is a few vids on You-tube using a steam stripper, Seems to come off and not leave a mess.


Still building up to doing this, Every day off i've had lately has been wet and miserable.

when i took mine off, the rear window was done in two over lapping parts & i was warned about a risk of ruining the heated rear screen if i did it myself, so i called up a window tinting company who removed them for me. cant remember how much it was, but it wasnt expensive.

the natural tint of the glass is MUCH nicer than ANY aftermarket tint. you wont regret it!! makes the car look much fresher!!

Agree Duncan, took mine out and its LOADS better. Didn't realise I could have damaged the rear heater element. Mind you, there's hardly any reason for that considering how warm it gets in the back anyway lol

Well actually got round to doing it today........ Much better :approve:

Peeled the tints off last weekend and I bought some spray on sticker removal stuff but it didn't really work ( Just softened it ), By chance i had some Auto glym "Fast Glass" cleaner in the boot and it lifted the residue right off after been given time to soak.

Job Done....
